46 Mommas Shaved Their Heads For The Brave

by: cancercompass

The number 46 may not be significant to most people. But to a certain group, 46 can be a devastating number. The number 46 represents the 46 parents in the United States who are told each weekday that their child is diagnosed with cancer. And 46 mommas wanted to raise awareness for those children this week by shaving their heads.

"We're all basically trying to raise awareness, because childhood cancer can get ignored. Forty-six women shaving their heads bald is something that no one can ignore," Heidi Randall, one of the 46 Mommas, told USA Today. She lost her daughter to brain cancer in 2007.

The 46 Mommas initiative is part of the St. Baldrick's Foundation - a campaign aimed at raising funds for childhood cancer research.

You can see the 46 Mommas this Friday, September 10th at 8pm on all major television networks for the live televised fundraiser, Stand Up To Cancer.
