UK Professor Helps Develop Test To Detect Ovarian Cancer

After four years of research, a new test will help identify cancer in women with ovarian cysts before surgery. Until the OVA1 blood test was created, a precise diagnosis before surgery wasn't possible, said Dr. Frederick R. Ueland, associate professor of gynecologic oncology at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and a principal investigator on the research project.

After losing her mother to cancer, Shelia Weeks, 61, was advised by her doctor to begin receiving mammograms when she was 36. Her mother's cancer was found in her liver, but started in her breast. There was no widespread detection method such as mammograms at that time. She passed away in 1982.

Tarceva To Be Reviewed By The FDA's Oncologic Drugs Advisory Committee For Use As A First-Line Maintenance Therapy In Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Erbitux Acknowledged By ASCO For The Second Year As A Major Advance In Cancer Treatment

The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) has once again recognized Erbitux(R) (cetuximab) as one of the major clinical cancer advances of 2009. This year Erbitux was selected by ASCO for providing the first significant increase in survival for 30 years in the treatment of patients with 1st-line recurrent and/or metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN).
