MoleSafe Can Help Detect Early Melanoma

MoleSafe

February 4, 2008

Developed in the world’s melanoma capitals of Australia and New Zealand, MoleSafe facilities can help to detect early skin cancer, specifically melanoma. With increased diagnostic accuracy, associated with dermoscopy and MoleSafe’s expert dermoscopists, MoleSafe is able to identify new or suspicious lesions at an earlier state by monitoring and comparing images over time. Working alongside cancer institutions worldwide, including Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in N.Y., dermoscopists provide researchers and scientists with images that help improve the early diagnosis of melanoma.

Originally known as MoleMap, this dermoscopic examination was developed in 1997 by a group of dermatologists from New Zealand and Australia. There are 37 clinics which have performed over 110,000 consultations, capturing 2.2 million images and successfully identifying over 1,500 melanomas.

MoleSafe is a tele-dermatology system designed to facilitate diagnosis of pigmented lesions by dermatologists who are highly skilled in dermoscopy. It incorporates the tools of total body photography, digital dermoscopy, serial monitoring and risk assessment procedures. Using the system, a patient’s images can be evaluated by the dermoscopist quickly and effectively, which truly is a step forward in melanoma detection, surveillance and intervention. While MoleSafe is able to identify all types of skin cancer, its main focus is on the early detection of melanoma, which is the fastest growing skin cancer in the United States.

The success of MoleSafe New Zealand and Australia has spread to the United States, and with the assistance of managing partner, Dr. Richard Bezozo, MoleSafe U.S.A. will be opening in spring of 2008 in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area.
