He just finished his radiation treatment on his neck. His throat is the worst it has been so far. Sometimes he has trouble even drinking water because the inside of his throat is so raw, and there is so much phlim built up. He has been able to only get down water, Boost, Ensure, and asparagus and some creamy soups. He  has lost so much weight I am really concerned about his nutrition. I have tried to think of anything I can, any way that I can go buy and prepare something healthy that he can get down. Tonight I am going to go buy turnip greens or collard greens and cook them till they're real soft with a smoked turkey leg or something. I figured if he is unable to eat the greens he could drink the "pot liquor" and get nutrients from that at least. I've been trying to think of stuff that would taste good that maybe I could buy and cook and then blend. I have to be careful though because even green tea at room temp. he said feels like fire in his throat. I've got to think of stuff that is creamy and base-rich that will go down in a soothing fashion that can be served neither hot nor cold. Anything cold burns. Any creative ideas from anyone who has had experience with this with maybe a little more culinary experience than I have would be greatly appreciated. By the way his taste buds are almost gone. They are supposed to come back. But I was thinking of blending canned beets and trying to think of some way to blend cooked liver. The combination of the two has successfully raised his red blood cell count from 6 all the way back up to normal in the past. But because of his throat he hasn't been able to eat them and I'm real concerned about is red blood cell count since he;\'s had problems with it getting low before. Please help. Iv'e had 3 (Y-90 angiograms) and they all went fabulously. After the last one I experienced severe leg weakness and have fallen 3x becuase it felt like my legs 'werent there'. I also have hand tremors now. I used to walk my neighborhood and jog the last block home. Now, it's a challenge to go up a flight of stairs.I lift my legs with my hands to get out of the car.  Also I've lost 30lbs. All this since December 2012! Anybody experiencing somrthing similar? Her Onc put her through 26 xeloda(5fu is released). Went to Hopkins two weeks after her last treatment and surgeon was unimpressed with progress. The mass involves structures and he won't attempt a surgery before she does casesh Other problem is since chemo she refuses solid food and is living off Boost+ for the last three weeks. She says everythng tastes bad, I have tried smoothies (too much volume) hard boiled egg salad, and on and. And she drinks water constantly whch makes me nuts because she needs calories. Now she's down to 111 lbs, 24 lost total. They said just eat calories and protein.. I learned that that is true when going through chemotherapy but the type of calories are important.  I learned that Ensure (a product of the Nestle' corporation) does have a lot of calories but is also high in high fructose corn syrup which has been linked to an increased risk of cancer... It has been know that a diet high in processed sugars and animal protein (fat) has been linked to an increased risk of cancer.... DO not use Ensure!!  If possible a diet high in fruits and vegeitables and protein supplents like whey or egg is best..  We found a great product in Orgain... An all organic supplemnt drink that contains the equivilent of 10 servings of fruits and vegatables and 16 grames of organic protein....
