what's life without a stomach.

Hello Everyone,
What's life without an stomach? My Husband has just had surgery Nov 2009 the removal of his stomach due to cancer at the age of 51. which is is still in ICU. Would he be able to live a comfortable life without his stomach or would it be some complication in his near future. Could he live without a stomach or how long do he has to live. what are the side effect that might occur. I'm so clueless that I'm so afraid that when he does come home would I be able to provide him with care he needs. Like, What can he eat, What can't eat, If anyone could provide me with some imformation that had their stomach removed. I would surely appreciated your kindness.
Thank You,

neuroendocrine cancer

Currently my dad has received two rounds of chemotherapy for this type of cancer. I heard that it affects your taste and appetite, but I was wondering if anyone has experienced this and if there were any foods they felt were appetizing or worked better than others. My dad has lost a lot of weight, doesn't want to eat, often says he cannot swallow and barely takes his supplements. He still has more chemotherapy, but I am afraid that he will not be strong enough if he doesn't start moving and eating. Does anyone have experience or advice with this?

Using Nutrition or Sutent to Keep Cancer at Bay

Hi All,My dad was diagnosed with RCC (clear cell), Stage III, Grade II on Wednesday. This came as a bit of a suprise as his tumor was 5.5 cm and was described as "well-encapsulated" and "away from the renal vein" due to his CT scan. He had a radical nephrectomy through the laparoscope. According to the pathology report, there were a few microscopic cells in the renal vein that took his supposed Stage I RCC to Stage III. The urologist who did the surgery said that there have been instances when the kidney and interior tumor are squished when removed through the small incision on the belly; as a result, some of the cancer cells come off and end up in the nearest exit--the renal vein.So...my dad is being treated as a Stage III case although he's been told he doesn't fit the profile. The urologist and oncologist he'll be working with are offering up a clinical trial of Sutent/Nexavar/placebo. I think it's the Assure trial. He is considering trying this, but he's also thinking about looking into a holistic MD who would work on nutrition with him. What are your thoughts? I see Sutent and Nexavar on this message board, but I'm not seeing much about nutrition and diet. I'm curious to see what research, personal stories, info all of you have to share. I know his doctors will push the drugs, while the holistic doctor he consults will push the nutrition and herbs. He is weighing all of his options before making a decision about how to move forward.Thank you for your help and be well!Andrea

butter milk

My mother had lung cancer. Sadly she passed away with a stroke in Feb. Anyway, she was having a had time eating because of radition. Someone who had cancer before said she should try drinking butter milk. It was so good for her. She said it went down so well. She could even eat cornbread with it. We were so happy that she had something that she could eat. When we found out that she had cancer she weighed 105 lbs. When she died she weighed 113. We were so happy that she was gaining weigh. But, like I said sadly she lost her wonderful life due to a stroke. But, Praise the Lord she did'nt have to suffer with the cancer. I hope this will help someone else who can't eat. May God be with you all!

It is tough having to change your lifestyle because some medical problem comes your way. I have had a tough time with this, I care incredibly about my body and have found myself in need of a diet supplement to help with cravings for sweets. I have discovered a product that works for me, Acai Chews. First of all it's amazing how good this berry is for you. For me this product has helped cut back on cravings because it is sweet but has no sugar.

Stomach Cancer Diet

I'm sorry this is so long but I'm new to all this. : )I'm hoping someone can help me. My father (67) was diagnosed with stomach cancer (lymphoma), ulcers, and h pylori at Christmas. His oncologist started him on an antibiotic treatment for several weeks. Last week, my father's endoscopy showed the h pylori infection was gone but everything else was the same. He goes to the oncologist tomorrow to discuss the next treatment. During this time, the doctor hasn't offered any type of information regarding diet, recipes to try, supplements, etc. My father is now at the point that anything he eats makes his stomach hurt and bloated. A few weeks ago he was at least able to eat soup, mashed potatoes, etc., without pain but now anything bothers him. HE IS SO HUNGRY. I can hardly bring myself to eat when I am around because I don't want to tempt him. He is losing weight and I'm sure he is not getting the proper vitamins. Can anyone offer any suggestions so I can help him? Also, his oncologist mentioned doing another round of antibiotic treatment. I do not understand why you would take that route if the infection is gone. Wouldn't it be better to start chemo or some other treatment to take care of the lymphoma that is already there? I'm concerned that it will spread if it isn't addressed soon. Thank you for any help and diet info you have to share!

what can Pseudomyxoma Pefitonei patient

My auntie is a 73 years old woman who found out she got Pseudomyxoma
Pefitonei almost one year ago. She has been doing chemotherapy since
then. Doctors advised not to have surgery because she is old and weak, specially it is her second cancer.

So far it is been around 9 months. She just had a MRI and doctor found
out one of her tumors, which used to be small jelly, is getting bigger
and alomst pushes her lung. We are not quite sure why the
tumor got big so fast but I guess one of the reasons is she was fed by
high protein food too much.

Chinese people believe fish maw, shark fin this kind of expensive food
has high nutrition. Seeing her getting skinnier and skinnier her families
want to boost up her health resistance so I think they fed her a lot of
this.

Now my auntie is way too skinny and only lies in bed every single day
cuz the tumor is big and hurts. I dont know what I can help specially I
heard the doctor said she is too weak to have any chemotherapy and we
can just try to reduce her pain when she is passing her way. Basically
she is waiting for the end of her life and the doctor is doing nothing except
using some Chinese medicine to control growth of the big tumor.
Can anyone tell me if there is any thing my auntie can still
eat and good for healing her sickness? I hate just sitting there even
the doctor told us nothing we can really do. Please, please, please give me some advice. Thank you very much.

Experiencing reduced taste, but no nausea?

Try Indian Food. My chemo does not affect my appetite, but it does markedly reduce the pleasure I experience from the flavors of the food I eat. It has been almost a year, and I find myself craving spicy, strongly flavored, or salty foods. If it's either shells and cheese or...try Indian food. Something about the flavor reminds me that food tastes good, and all will again soon! Good Luck
