Lung Cancer

My 76 year YOUNG husband was diagnosed May 8 with lung cancer. Surgery was May 27 and diagnosed as Stage 1B although it was caught early, it was an aggressive cancer (splitting beneath the lab's microscope) thus Taxol and Chemoplatin (sp?) began June 22 (first of 4-6 treatments). He has MAJOR problems with constipation due to pain meds thus refuses to take them. Has anyone utilized accupuncture for pain control? He has lost 21 lbs since his surgery refusing to eat and IF the pain could be controlled via accupuncture I think he could get some strength.

OUT OF THE BOX IN THE BATTLE

In order to win the war against the devastation of a GBM IV, attitude is paramount and that attitude is a choice and my husband--out five years--has occasionally chosen anger; but his actions speak volumes as today he sees an Ayurvedia specialist and yesterday he saw his acupuncturist and always, always, Jack will continue to read/research and learn as much about his health aspects because his choices define his life.

Salivary Glands damage from rad

Hello again. Thanks for the suggestions. The docs gave me no advice or suggestion about my salivary glands.I've done research and experimenting on my own and tried the combo acupuncture/herbs with amazing results.I have significantly improved my salivary flow although it's only from one major gland. The acupuncturist told me he can only activate one.And it's only temp up to a yr or more.I'm certainly not complaining.Because i will see him the rest of my life.It was amazing after the 10th session the flow of this gift called saliva. He put needles in my face and neck chinese style. Now i don't drink water that much and don't get up at all night time to have a drink.Up to the time i met him i was so depressed and the quality of life was terrible.I don't know if the needles are keeping my throat open or not but since i started i haven't had but one esophageal dilation in the last two yrs.Had 8 before that over 2yrs time.Maybe the western docs are so programmed they can't see the forest through the trees. But anyway i hope my story can help others suffering.. Charlie W.

Acupuncture in Children

Hello to all! My name is Amanda and I am a journalism student at Ithaca College in New York. I am doing an extensive research project on acupuncture and specifically its use in children. I was wondering if anyone has a child who has been given acupuncture, or if anyone knows of a family whose child has been given it. If so I was hoping to speak with you, or your friends, regarding their experience. I am hoping to be published and this input would really help. You may either respond here or message me back personally. Thanks!

alleviate dry mouth and mucous

To: CherylI am a year out of treatment (39 radiation treatments and 3 Cisplatin) for base of tongue (stage 4) cancer that had spread to my neck lymph nodes, both sides. So far, the scans I have had show the cancer to be gone, but I am left with severe dry mouth. The excessive mucous seemed to go away by itself after four or five months.I have had 8 or 9 acupuncture treatments, without any change. I am presently enrolled in a trial at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, using electrical stimulation at the acupuncture points. This trial is specifically designed to help dry mouth. So far, I can't report any results. There are still openings in the trial. If you, or anyone reading this, is interested, contact Dr. Michele Halyard at the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix (480/301-8000) Good luck and speedy recovery. Saul

Relieve muscle and joint pain

I am undergoing Interferon treatment for a melanoma which was removed in May 07. I think the drug is responsible for my muscle and joint pain which I experience pretty much on every spot of my body. While a massage sounds good, I wonder if acupuncture could be a better long term approach. Thanks to anyone who has dealt with a similiar experience. Rebecca

Acupuncture for boosting immunity against cancer

I have soft tissue sarcoma (STS) of MFH. Resection was done two months ago and radiation treatment just started 4 days ago. After the radiation treatment, I will go into the monitor phase to see if any metastasis happens. Medical study concluded "chemotherapy in the treatment of extremity soft tissue sarcoma
remains uncertain. This approach cannot be adopted as the standard of
practice for all extremity soft tissue sarcomas.
If there is a survival benefit for adjuvant chemotherapy in extremity STS, it is probably small"My friend who is an acupuncturist told me that there are several points that generally improve one's body immunity and should be tried. So, I bought per his recommendation the electro-stimulator instrument and with his instruction and started the acupuncture treatment. Hope this helps preventing or minimizing the metastasis. If you, the reader, know of acupuncture experience for immunity against cancer, I would appreciate greatly your sharing of such. qksand

Acupuncture-ovarian Ca-chemo

Hi to everyone,

I am in the middle of ridding myself of Ovarian CA (Borderline Serous Tumor) Stage 3. I first came down with it in 1995, because it is a "borderline" type, only surgery was recommended.

Then, in 2005 my CA-125 was 177 (It had never been elevated, even when I had a 8 cm ovarian tumor in 1995! So, I had to go for more surgery in April, 2005--my abdomen was quite full of cancer--still the borderline type of cell.

Now I am taking Doxil and am on my 5th treatment. I have bone pain and take pain meds. I'm afraid I'm getting addicted. I am also getting, (I think) Esophogeal erosions or reflux from taking so many pills. I get bad rashes and the "hand foot" syndrome associated with Doxil. My CA125 went as high as 345, after surgery. It is now about 180. The surgeon said he could only get 80% of the cancer in my abd. thus the chemo.

I would like to know how acupuncture or moxibustion could help me? I am an RN who has studied alternative medicine quite extensively. I take all the supplements that the Naturopath at CTCA recommends and some that my local MD has suggested. I also get Meyer's Cocktail (a vitamin IV) and am going to try homeopathic "Iscador" which is used in Europe for all types of cancers. Is there any place that acupuncture would fit into this picture? No one at the CTCA has ever contacted me about getting Acupuncture, the efficacy of it in my case, etc. I have been a CTCA patient since July.

Any information on this would be very helpful.
