I had one round of adjunct chemo (curative) 8 months ago  but unfortunately it was unsuccessful and I'm now facing another round of chemo (supportive). I'm a nurse and have always put my faith in traditional medicine but now find myself looking farther. I have heard some good things about Pau D'arco (tea form) and am wondering if anyone has any firsthand experience with it. The research that I have done looks good but would like to hear from someone who has used it. Any input wpuld be greatly appreciated. Thank u and bless u!!Rhonda wife of Bo http://www.cancercompass.com/message-board/message/all,32741,0.htm BoRhonda Sun, 01 Feb 2009 00:00:00 GMT My mom was diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic melanoma (lungs) 2 years ago.  She's been on Temodar which reduced and then stabalized the cancer until just recently.  (I feel that the Temodar, along with prayer, prolonged her life, as her original prognosis before receiving chemo was 6-8 months.)  Her recent ct-scan indicated that the cancer has progressed, and her oncologist felt it was necessary to take her off the chemo because it was no longer beneficial.  He said that because of her age (86), all other chemo treatments would be too toxic for her.  He told her to double up on her multiple vitamin intake & he would see her back in 3 weeks.  I am now researching alternative treatments & have scheduled a consultation with a naturopath.  She is reluctant about  going, as she said that she doesn't want to get started with someone else.  However, I am not ready to give up hope.  Does anyone have any insight as to whether or not alternative treatment by a naturopath would be worthwhile?  I'd appreciate any thoughts or advice that anyone might have to share.  Thank you!    http://www.cancercompass.com/message-board/message/all,29069,0.htm jeanniez Wed, 08 Oct 2008 00:00:00 GMT I am doing PhD in Vedas with special reference to human health and body. I wan to know why more people do not try natural medicine. When we first started this country we thrived on natural medicine. We learned scurvy could be cured just by eating lemons or oranges, many illnesses could be combated with penicillian which is nothing more than mold, and we stress healthy eating and living. If conventional medicines are not doing anything but slowing or pacifying an illness. Why not use a different source? What are we afraid of? She tried all the conventional medicines and nothing worked. Then she was introduced to Shark cartilege. In a few months the cancer was gone! After initial mole removal from shoulder in April, followed by nodular tumor removal in June, PET and CT showed cancer had moved to the liver and nowhere else. After three full cycles of chemo, (7hrs a day four days a week with 21 day break) new PET/CT showed widespread to skin, blood, lymph and bones down the right side, one of the liver tumors the size of grapefruit with multiple other tumors in the liver. Not in brain yet. Yesterday the pain moved to the left side, so hospice suggests spread as well as a large tumor now growing in his armpit. We stopped chemo in October since he nearly died from it (sleeping 23 hrs a day, developed blood clot and lost too much weight) He is now with Hospice. They have him on 120 mg of morphine twice a day with subl. in between, Dexameta something or other, Lorazapam, and today Elavil was added. The melanomas are popping out all over his face and head, litterally eating him alive from the outside in, he's so sad and so tired of waiting for the relief of death. He's tired of the pills, its no wonder he isn't hungry, by the time he eats all the pills he's full. There has to be some alternative medicine we can try to help slow down the spread or kill the nodules. He's on oxygen at night which was helping to clear his mind and give him energy, but now that the pain is spreading he is getting weaker. I don't know how much time we have left, but I'm desperate for something natural to try.
