No Ga68 uptake, intense FDG uptake. Any hope?

I was diagnosed 3 months age with 40 tumours, up to 2.9cms in size, metastases to liver with no known primary. Liver biopsy result, Ki-67, 1.3% indicated grade 1 well differentiated NET. BUT no uptake with Ga68 or Octreotide PET. However intense uptake FDG PET indicating poorly differentiated with poor outcome. CgA 980. The 3 Drs I have seen do not seem to want to discuss it and I get the feeling there is nothing can be done so they feel more comfortable if I just go away. They just say, "You are the rarest of the rare". One indicated any chemotherapy benefits would not be worth the side effects. I can accept a dire prognosis but surely someone can give me some clues what to expect - given the above results. Any comments welcome please.

My dad has been diagnosed with lung and liver cancer he has been told he only has months to live he is a hard working man and is still coming to terms with it. I live in a country called New Zealand I was just wondering if there are any places in the world or doctors that have a treatment or anything that may be able to help my dad. My dad will not and does not wanna give up. He has been told the best option for him is to have chemo. Jus to prolong it not get rid of it do you's think we need a second opinion. He is willing to give anything a try his words were " I will become a guinea pig for the doctors if it helps me and others "

Terminal Cancer Has Gone !!!

I thought I would post an update on my husband's progress with stage 4 terminal cancer.
Yesterday we got my husband's MRI, PET scan test and the blood results and the Oncologist was amazed to say that there is no cancer anywhere in his body at the moment. The doctor said that he could not have thought this possible after initially seeing my husband's CRC with over 12 liver cancer lesions, 18 months ago.
If you read my past posts over the last 18 months you will see that we have tried everything possible to fight the cancer with Liver resection, Chemo, diet, natural anti cancer foods, exercise, pure water, sunshine, fresh air and prayer.
There is every chance that the cancer may return in the future and for this reason we will always have our anti cancer juices in the morning and afternoon.
I want to help and give support to anyone suffering from cancer. We hope that the liver tissue given from my husband's Liver Resection to the Australian Tissue Bank can give scientists further information for them to make future discoveries in cancer research.
Best wishes Judy.

Cytochrome P450 ( Everlimus ) Research Study

I'm about to begin this trial study with this antifungal medication that has had remarkable results with Pancreatic Cancer patients. Evidently, my diagnosis is (Lung Metatasis) with endocrine non small cell carcinoid tumor. This is new but has been approvedby the FDA. The only downfall is it's a 50/50 study of which it's 28 day daily oral tab. But, the (NEGATIVE OF THIS RESEARCH) is you might get the placebo and not the drug. So, if your Cancer is growing quickly, your outcome will be worst then if you just decided to drop the Research and go for the real deal? There is an alternative a derviative called(Sirolimus)from the Research med called(Everlimus)It's been approved and used for over a decade with Pancreatic Cancer, they're trying to see if this drug wil shrink the carcinoid tumors. The side effects are the worse ever?? Anybody out there ever took or is in this study presently?? Please let me know..

inoprable liver cancer

Having been told that my cancer was on the bile duct and causing jaundice they put in a stent to free the bile duct but that went septic and i nearly died so i was on antibiotics to get me healthy so i could start chemo,so i started searching the internet and found a new procedure called S I R T.s it has good reports of success so i now have had the procedure and next month i will have ascan to see how much the cancer has shrunk.anothe r name for this treatment is Sirtek
It has no after affects like chemo andis a once only procedure it involves inserting a small rod into the artery feeding the cancer which dissolves into millions of tiny radium beads to attack the cancer
I hope this info helps save a life

Cholangiocarcinoma

Hello All,
My mum passed away after only a few weeks after she was diagnosed with bile duct cancer (cholangiocarcinoma with cholangitis). The oncologist saw her in January 2013, did nothing for a few weeks, she went in with severe jaundice. She was given chemo and radiotherapy, probably about twice. She became bed bound after she had keyhole surgery to unblock her bile ducts. The care was really poor in hospital, she developed pressure sores near her buttock. It was such a bad experience as I went to see her in February 2013, I was glad to be able to care for her, spend some quality time in her company. I was so stressed out, could not go to work. She passed away on Friday the 19th of April 2013. I could not attend the cremation as in our culture, the body has to be cremated the same day. So sad knowing that I will never see her again as I live in the UK and she was in Mauritius. Her memories will always be with us. After the inhumane fates of all those people at Stafford hospitals, I feel for those lost souls. We seem to be focussing on targets rather than compassion and care.

So surprised !

I am going to start this post with hope that as a whole, all of us victims of Carcinoid Cancer can benifit greatly from each other.
It was called Carcinoid Tumor I was told from Carolina Medical Center, Concord, NC on 4-08-2013. This was a biopsy of my Liver that they determine this, but in March 2013 I already knew from an MRI and Barum/H.Density CT that I had this cancer in my small bowel (3.2x2.2x8.0 cm cell mass), traces in both Kidneys, Spleen, and Pancreas (1.0 to 3.2 cm in size), Liver ( 5 mm nodule in my left lung apex, 1.0 to .06 cm nodule along the major fissure). Also mildly enlarged lymph nodes along the esophagus and descending Aorta. from all of these findings upon speaking with a surgeon I was told they wanted to remove the large cancer in my sm bowel, but could'nt! Reason: it's location/it also was being fed by a major artery. I am scheduled for an Octreotide (SantoSTATIN) injection 25 March 2013. Numerous other tests were taken and some are still pending, I been feeling like a busy trolly car "back and forth" to appointments, test, etc. I was told I am in stage 4, what does this realy mean??? I am going to stop here for now, I would love to see some posts to this about anything? I will say in closing for now, that all the prior infromation that I discovered from as far back as June 2007 tells me some so called Medical Professionals slipped up, to say it nicely! I need help, sincerely Don

Longest Liver Cancer Survivor?

Does anyone know any long term survivors of liver cancer? My father was recently diagnosed with HCC in January of 2007. He had a resection in mid march and just found out the cancer is back with approximately 4-5 tumors. He is not a candidate for transplant or additional resection. I know the prognosis is not good but I am trying to find some hope of people that have had long term survival.

It is 2:30 AM and I cant sleep because I dont want to lay down next to my wife and have her wake up to a dead body. The pain feels like its moving down my spine and my whole body aches. The burning behind my eyeballs are like a fever, casuing me to blink a lot, and with every sharp pain the adrenaline keeps me awake and focused. Breathing is easy for now, but there is so much to do and think about. Do I put her through this pain of having to watch me dwindle into nothing? Do I get her to hate me? What would you do? All I know is I dont break my word Kimberly and I will not leave you. Sweet dreams princess and I will see you when you wake up!

Fathers journey with Alternative Medicines

Hi,
I just wanted to narrate my fathers journey with cancer and our personal experience with alternative treatments.
Background
My father was first diagnosed with Stomach cancer in 2004 and whilst it was a tremendous shock to us we were a bit ignorant about the cancer (which probably helped us at that time). Anyway, he underwent surgery followed by chemotherapy and radiation treatments. He was lucky to be a stomach cancer survivor and made changes to his diet and lifestyle (gave up smoking). He was then diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2007 and again underwent surgery and recovered from that successfully.
Bile Duct Cancer
To our horror he was diagnosed with Bile Duct cancer in March 2012 (he had reverted back to a more unhealthy lifesyle in 2011, which included alcohol, meat and fried foods).
In April 2012 the doctors put a self expanding metal stent to alleviate issues of bile flow and subsequently when his condition improved, looked at the possibility of surgery. However, once on the table the surgeon decided that surgery was not possible. The doctors attending to him had mentioned a prognosis of 3 to 6 months.
Without surgery my understanding is that conventional medicine does not offer many solutions and quality of life was a key consideration in our decision. Therefore, as a last resort we turned to alternative medicines.
Our Journey with Alternative Medicines
I spend my time between Australia and India. My focus last year in April was on finding him the best alternative medicines that are available (and with some body of knowledge behind them).
I narrowed down my options to the following
1) Professor Chris Teo from Malaysia who runs CACARE
2) Natural Supplements
3) Ayurveda treatment from DS Cancer research in India. Albeit I started Dad on the Ayurveda in Sep 2012 more as an insurance policy. He was already feeling better before then.
CACARE
This is run by a botanist in Malaysia called Chris Teo and he has had great success in healing people (he doesnt believe in a cure) with cancer and Dad has his herbal teas on a daily basis. Protocol is provided by Chris. Also, he is very focussed on diet and red meat, fried food, dairy, alcohol and processed sugar are definitely not allowed.
Natural supplements
Protocol noted below
1) IP6 Gold powder from Dr Shamsuddin (1heaped scoop in water twice a day before food)
2) Graviola from now foods (1 tablet twice a day from now foods)
3) Zymactive ( 1 tablet before meals 3 times a day)
4) Curamed by Europharma (1 tablet of 750mg twice a day after food)
5) KyoGreen powder in the morning with water
6) AHCC powder from now foods (1 teaspoon on an empty stomach twice a day with water)
7) Dr ohhirras professional plus probiotics twice a day on an empty stomach
8) Livatone plus (1 tablet three times a day with food)
9) Olive leaf extract glycerite from now foods (1 dropper twice a day on an empty stomach)10) Pomegranate extract ellagic acid (tablets to be had at the same time as graviola)
11) Chia fiber to be sprinkled on cereals or food in the morning
12) Udo's oil spread on bread twice a day

I order my supplements from iherb.com and they are especially good with international delivery. If you have never used before then you can use AHU812 as a referral code to get a discount on your first order. The only supplement that they do not carry is Livatone Plus and I order that directly from Dr Cabot's website (I get the US mix with the selenium and not the Australian mix).
DS Cancer Research
They appear to have treated a large number of patients and they provide you with Ayurveda based supplements which are shipped on a monthly basis. As mentioned previously, we started this in Sep 2012 and at that point my father was already stable.
Dads current situation
My father has a good quality of life (90% of any one of us) and apart from the occasional infection due to the stent, his blood reports (tumor markers have remained down and LFT is mostly in normal range) and scan on his 1 year anniversary has also provided a clean bill of health (i.e. scan said stable disease).
The future is always uncertain but I really wanted to share my personal experience with everyone who might be struggling with this disease and wish you all the best.
Also, my understanding is that the natural supplements would not have been any different if he had liver cancer instead of bile duct cancer.

Need help with side effcts of Nexavar for liver cancer?!

Hi! I am joining this site in hopes for some advice fro my mother. She has been on nexavar for over 6 months. She has liver cancer but has had good results with it so far. It is stabilizing her tumor and killing it from the inside out. She has a large tumor so she is on the full dosage of it. She has had the sores on her feet. The biggest side effect for her is the diarrhea. She goes 10-20 times a day and sometimes does not make it to the bathroom anymore. They have given her the Immodium (sp) and told her to take it when she starts to go to the bathroom but it isnt helping much. Ive heard people talk of Konsyl. Does anyone else have any advice? She is low in potassium and has lost a lot of weight. She cant eat much and is not absorbing any nutrients. She does not want to lower her dosage as it is working. Sometimes I just dont know what is worse for her health. =( Im grateful its working, just would love to find something to make it easier on her.

Nightime dry heaves

Hi all,
My 82-year-old father was just diagnosed with an inoperable cholingiocarcinoma and he has chosen not to do chemo as it was not likely to help much.
He's doing fairly well on most fronts -- eating well because of megestrol; jaundice is low because of a bile thinner med and a new stent; and he isn't sleeping too much. However, his biggest challenge is waking in the night with dry heaves that go on for hours and cause serious pain in the gullet, chest and jaw.
He's been getting haloperidol before bed, but it doesn't stop the dry heaves. He doesn't have nausea per se; it's more like diaphragm spasms.
Any ideas?

Question about Liver cancer

Hello.. My dad was diagnosed with liver cancer in october of 2012. He just went to see a cancer specialist today and I was confused when he called me.. He said that the type of cancer he has he could live for another 40 years it just depends on how fast it spreads.. I've dealt with family who have had diff types of cancer and it spread rather fast.. He has been on no meds for it, but was given 6 to 9 months to live back in october.. He is not really informative.. I was hoping someone could possibly help me out, I have been so stressed lately with the fact that he was given such a short period of time left with his family and now all of sudden he gives me this news..

My name is Pamela velafuert I was diagosed with Ovarian cancer 5 years ago and I thought my world was over. I went from one specialist to the other and nothing worked and then I decided to turn in for spiritual guidance. I actually was not a beliver in spiritual healing and positive imaging.
stage 4 liver cancer

My husband was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer about a month ago. He had complained of back pain and bloating for probably a year. I finally convinced to medical staff to do a ct scan where they discovered an abdominal aortic aneurysm (what I thought was the problem), a bleeding ulcer, and 70+% tumors in his liver. Pathology diagnosed high grade, poorly differentiated, small-cell neuroendocrine carcinoma. All tests have failed to identify the primary tumor.
He has completed 1 round of chemotherapy. It made him really sick for a few days but then the bloating and back pain seemed to be less for a week or so. Now it has come back. Does anyone with experience with this disease know why this might happen? I am afraid the chemo may have slowed the tumors for a while but now they have resumed their progress.
I am so grateful to have found this forum.
