My 11 year old black lab, Dawson was diagnosed with transitioal cell carcinoma on 2/23/07.  It is in the trigone region of his bladder.  We started him on Piroxicam on Monday. His oncologist suggested Mitoxantrone but between my husband, myself and our regular vet I think we have decided against chemo.   So far he is doing good.  Other than him always needing to try to go to the bathroom.  He seems very happy.

We lost his sister last May to bone cancer, so when he was diagnosed it hit us very hard.  We haven't gotten use to Sunshine being gone, let alone facing this beast again.

I am here to find out as much as I can.  I also started him on K9 Immunity, Transfer Factor and fish oil this week. I have an appointment with a holistic vet on Monday to learn more about supplements.

Any information that anyone can share would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Kristen...sorry to hear the news.  We too (my mom and I) officially found out our dog Daisy has TCC. Since Dec. 2006 we had one ultrasound and that vet specialist gave her 2 months to a year.  The growth was 1/4 inch and we decided not to give the peroxicam at that time more flaxoil - well it's been 3 months and she seems to be still active, just panting a little more. SO, we took her to yet another Specialist this time a cancer specialist and yesterday confirmed TCC.  NOW, she is on Peroxicam and we decided against Chemo..BUT, I found a Possible cure with the help of this site..Someone recommends DCA - dichloroacetate

THIS WAS ON THE NEWS, but since it has not gone to clinical trials for

Humans they will not sell it.  BUT wecan go to a chemical company and buy it in bulk. It supresses the growth of cancer cells with affecting norml cells..Univ. Of Aberta..let me see if I can find the link I just saw o TV.

Lets be proactive and see if we can cure  our dogs !!  Amazing stuff.

We only have a little time and apparently this has no major side affects.

Hello.. I responded to you last week , but they deleted my message.  I guess I left you my phone number.. Anyway, I am sorry for you and your doggie as I am going through the same ordeal.. Daisy has TCC as well. We (my mom and I ) decided no chemo, no peroxicam as well , although for two night we id Peroxicam and apparently panted all night long..You know it is the "quality" of life..to keep them comfortable.

One would never know she had this as she is still playful, has her appetite too.  Keep me posted on what you find out.  Fish oil is best (omega 3)

I have her on K9 immunity too, but do not see a difference...

All the best,

Sandi Smit

I hope everything works out well for Dawson.

I'm not sure what is worst  for me finding out about the cancer or the way time slipped by after I was told.

Jacquie, my wonderful little dog, was diagnosed with TCC of the bladder last week. Yes, this is quite devastating. I love her with all my heart! Anyway, she is on Feldane 2.5 mg and Pepcid 10 mg once a day. I have started her on Omega 3 fish oil. My vet said dogs make their own Vit C, but I was thinking of giving her a little to keep the urine acidic. I also saw the information about the K9 Immunity and Transfer. Does anyone have any feedback for me about this? Also, how do you find a Holistic Vet? Thanks all! Chris
