Subject: My pup has a tumor on her bladder
Date: 03/08/2007

My pup of 3 years (mix breed) Ebony was operated on back in Jan 07 she had an open pyrometria, which caused her to have a false pregnancy. My vet told me to have her fixed. So I did so. Just last Saturday I noticed that she had a thick bloody discharge and rotten smell coming out of her. So I took her into get an ultrasound. They discoverd a  tumor like mass. Today they did an exploratory surgery on her to find out that the tumor is at the neck of her bladder. ( Which I am being told can not be taken out) They have told me I may have amonth left with her. This is absolutely breaking my heart! She has always had a lil submissive peeing issue and now I wonder if every since I found her she had this ( she wwas a stray I found her at 3 weeks old). If anyone has any ideas or treatments please let me know.

Thank You VERY MUCH,

Mandy

Depending on the type of  cancer, they do chemo/radiation on pets in some areas.  Bladder tumors respond well to this modality in humans.  Don't know about animals or what the cost might be.

Mandy us dog lovers understand!! My friends dog just had rectal cancer. They removed the mass and I suggested  Poly MVA

www.polymva.com and after 2 months the dog is great.  In your case the tumor is more advanced so it is just something you might want to try.

Hey there!  i really feel for you and will be praying for you and your pup.   i find out today whether my dog has cancer or not on the bladder.   He's a 3 yr old beagle.   I'm so depressed, because most cases are in older dogs.  I feel like if i would have noticed anything sooner, we could have caught it.   we will not have the results until this afternoon so i'm praying for a miracle.  please let me know how things are with your pup right now.   thanks!

Given the history, it might just be a "stump pyometra" which is a persistent infection at the place where the uterus was tied off.  This sits just above the bladder neck and can look like a mass.  It can result in smelly vaginal discharge.   If this is the case, they will just remove the stump (it is a abscess) and put the dog on antibiotics.  It would be uncommon for a 3 year old dog to have a bladder tumor, especially a beagle.  Try not to worry.
