Subject: Both of MY parents have cancer...
Date: 03/16/2007
MY Father has been fighting Lung cancer for a year now, My Mother has been by his side the whole time helping him get better as it turns out his cancer is in remission as of January, we were all so gratefull and happy...Unfortunately My Mother was in the hospital in December for which they thought it was her Gullbladder, The same week we found out my Father's cancer was in remission we found out my mother had a tumor on her liver, Now through all the test and waiting we just found out she is in stage IV of Bile Duct Cancer and the only treatment possible for her  is Chemo... I can not beleive this is happening to both of my parents at the same time, I went Yesterday March 15 2007 with my Mother for her 1st treatment, it was emotionally hard for me to see her hooked up with medicine being pumped into her, but I sat by her side as she was so hopefull and happy to begin her treatment...the past few weeks had been hard for her with all the pain and sickness she had to experience, She is 57 and my Father is 63, they are both still quite young and I cannot imagine them dying. They will celibrate their 42nd anniversary this August GOD Willing... Everything I have researched tells me my mom does not have long... I just need to know how to deal with this.. I am their 37 yr old son and I know I am supose to be strong but sometimes I cry myself to sleep... The doctors have not been clear with my mom about the out come..She thinks if she gets the treatment like my father she will have many years left,, I pray to GOD every day she does...I am not loosing hope but I also want to be realistic and i want to do what ever I can to help them both...Any advise? How does one deal with this kind of a situation?

Dear Keep Faith,

I'm so sorry your family is going through this. I will pray for you all daily. If you can give me you first names (only), I will add it to our prayer chain, at our church in NJ> WE have 64 members on the chain. It may seem hopeless for your mom, but we never know God's plan. Patients outlive doctors' expectations all the time. Please keep the faith and remember to take care of yourself, so you can help take care of them. Debbi

God Bless you and your parents. I don't know how you deal with it. One day at a time and lots of prayer . I know God will help you all. My father died of cancer when I was 4 years old ( I am 43 now) and my mother has cancer now. I know how hard it has been for me to see her sick. She is my best friend. I will pray for you and your family.

Hi there, my heart truly goes out to you and I will lift you and your parents up in prayer.  My sweet mom ( a very young 70 ) was diagnosed with bile duct cancer on 10/2/06.  She just passed away and went to be with the Lord this past Sun. April 1st.  She did rounds of chemo but it got to the point where nothing else would help as the tumors were growing even with chemo.  I feel your pain as I am the same age as you and can truly relate to your saddness.  I have spent the past 6 months grieving my mom's illness and possible future which was cut shorter than we ever thought.  In the end we were all together as she wished and it was amazing.  Hospice is awesome too.

I also want to encourage you, I realize the above information is sad and you do want some reality.  Most cases found late like my mom's the patient lives a few months to 13 months.  BUT I do want to encourage you, my parents became friends with a couple their same age from chemo and the lady was a 5 year survivor of bile duct cancer...so as some of the other people wrote we never know what God will do.  God is faithful and has a plan for all of our lives.  Even in the midst of this deep, dark storm I am going through I feel GOd's presence like never before.  I pray your mom is one that beats the odds with all my heart I pray that for you.  You will get through this, spend lots of time with your mom.  After she was diagnosed I committed to spending every weekend with her and oh, am I ever thankful I did that, I have no regrets!!!  My heart breaks for my dad, they just celebrated their 50th wedding anniv. last June.  God bless you my friend and I PRAY for healing.
