Hello all,

Quick debatable question. Which seems to be most effective for pain management Duragesic patch or Oxycontin? My mom is on Oxycontin 20 mg q 12hr and 5mg oxycodone for break through pain. She's very stubborn when it comes to pain pills. She doesn't want to be a walking zombie...but w/o them the pain is unbearable. I should add here she has pancreatic cancer w/metastisis to the liver...STAGE IV.

 Just wondering....

Is your mom still on the patch? My husband just started it today.. Seems to be okay so far. Was given Dilada for break thru pain.  Just wondering if she is still taking and having luck with the patch...

Thanks, Ms Cheryl

Hi, Cheryl.

My mom never actually did try the patch. She stuck with Oxycontin as long as bearable. Then the pain became excrutiating and she had no choice but to have 24 hour drip of demerol via a pain pump. My mom died June 14. She is resting peacefully now. I truly wish you and your love ones all the best. This is a tough process with lots of ups and downs along the way.

Best Wishes,

Melanie

Melanie, I'm sorry for your loss, but I know she is at peace. My Hiisband has lost his mom thru his sickness and it has been hard. She just couldn't bare the pain of him suffering and maybe going before her.. She had a massive stoke and lasted a week in November.. Thank you for your reply.. I don't know if this is going to be the start of his pain management or just temporary, whichever we just take a day at a time... Each day I think about trying to find a job and going back to work then when I do he seems to get worse and I just keep telling my self my work is here taking care of him...
