Subject: question for a caring soul
Date: 03/23/2007
has anyone been told they have a severe ulcer in their stomach and a severe ulcer in the duodenum and a hiatal hernia and pancretitis and after the biopsy came back it turned out to be cancer? i had a egd today and was told about the ulcers and hernia i also had a gallbladder ultrasound but the person giving it took about 40 pictures and i had pain in the places she was pushing on so i asked her how did it all look and she wouldn't tell me anything all she said was we give it to the pathologist and a nurse will call you in a week.

Not acceptable. Results from any scans are posted within the "mainframe" in  3 days. At least they should be. A nurse should not be callling you, but the doctor. 3 DAYS, 3 DAYS. If a nurse calls - it should be with an appointment that day or the next. "We are very busy" is not acceptable. As frightening and stressful as this is, you still need to make it clear, waiting is not an option. It is not your problem they are overwhelmed with patients. You need to know the results and your options now. AND - always get your reports. When the results in, they are reported in the computer. Get them. If ALL 40 pics have not been evaluated - get what they have so far. Which is more stressful, waiting, or being afraid to be aggressive with your own well being?  You can be nice, but firm. You definately need to find strength in yourself to get the answers. This way, thier are no "shoulda, couldas" or 'If onlys" No regrets.

Been there, almost done that.  God Bless
