Hi there.
I've never used this board before. I'm very confused at the moment at the prognosis we're hearing from the oncologist. My mum developed breast cancer in 2001. Then 2 years ago tumors were found at the orbit of the eye then the pelvis. Then last year, one of spinal chords and then just a little under 2 months ago small dots found on the liver. She started Gemzar a month ago and the following week she developed ascites. She has been hospitalised ever since. It is overwhelming how quickly things have progressed. Then 3 days ago her oncologist informed us there was nothing more they could do for mum. That she was weakening. That she would most probably pass away in 2 weeks. The next bit is where I am very confused. The same oncologist spoke to my dad this morning...And he told him that he was happy with mum's state and that he may give her more chemo this coming monday!!! And to our best knowledge he had not even seen mum this morning and he was just going by nurses reports on her upkeep & perhaps an x-ray taken yesterday. Mum has catheter installed-she has tea coloured urine. She is on fluids..She is eating miniscule amounts. Her abdomen is distended. She is so very tired. Can only whisper to talk. Surely chemo at this stage would be a detrement as opposed to a help
Any replies would be appreciated.
Thank you.
