My dad has colon cancer with mets to the liver, it is a stage 4 the doctors have told us 6 months to 1 year. He is not eating or drinking much now but, he is having some nausea and dizziness and really feels bad. I am so scared of what will happen next, the doctors seem to think that chemo will help, in short if there is anyone out there with these symptoms or is going through this please let me know, just what some of our options may be to help his appetite and maybe something to help him to get strength back.

Thanks so much,
one scared daugther who loves her daddy soooooooo much

I don't want to scare you, but my husband died of bile duct cancer (in the liver) 2 months ago. He went through 3 rounds of chemo, but the biggest issue we fought for months was his lack of nutrition. He just could not eat. Find a Dr who will work with your Dad in trying to find a way to keep him nourished. It is critical that it start NOW! We ended up using TPN (intravenous feeding), but by the time they started him on it, my husband looked like a skeleton. I cannot emphasize how important finding a way to get nourishment into your dad is. We tried everything - liquid supplements, milkshakes, etc.
Good luck to you.

Hello,
My mother was told in January 2004 she had colon cancer that has mat into her liver heavily! The doctors said she should be in a lot of pain, but she is not!! She has had alot of problems with loss of appetite, nausa, and tiredness. She has just complete her first round of chemo. Half way through the first round, she could hardly eat, then she started a drug called maranol (not sure of the spelling) Since then she has been able to eat, it has helped alot. She did not want to take it because it is a legal form of marijuana approved by the FDA. Have your Dad ask his doctor. My best wishes to you and Dad and all your family!! God Bless, you are all in my prayers!!!

Hi. My Mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer with mets to liver (very involved) in May 2003 and they told her 6 months. She started chemo, takes weekly procrit shots and had a scan 1 month ago which showed that some of her tumors were smaller. She initially lost tons of weight but is gaining a lot back. She started with drinking Boost and would eat small meals very frequently. She usually stuck to chicken and noodles when her appetite was poor but now eats tons of broccoli, spinach and squash which are full of vitamins and takes Ester C for her immune system. There's so much info out there and your dad just has to use what is helpful to him. I personally think that prayer has gotten her this far and hope it helps you as well. Good luck
-Anna
