Has anyone with Mucosal Melanoma which has spread ever taken part in a Experimental Program with the Medication called Gleevec?
I would appreciate hearing from you.

Have you begun treatment on Gleevec? My mother is looking into this treatment next week. She has Stage 4 mucosal melanoma. I would be very interested to hear how you have down with this medication. Thanks!
I am in stage 1V also, and without treatment I have been holding my own. I considered Gleevec, but my Dr. advised me that it would not be worth going through the medical testing prior to finding out if I qualified. Only one person qualified for the treatment, who had Mucosal Melanoma, so it wasn't advisable for me to proceed. I have lived for 2 1/2 years without treatment, and so far I am not sick. I see my Dr. at Mass General, Boston, MA., every 6 weeks, and he is amazed that I am doing so well. I follow a healthy diet, and get my rest, no smoking or drinking in my lifetime. the Melanoma on my nose causes some breathing difficulty when I lay down at night, so I use two pillows to raise me up. No surgery for this 2nd ocurrence, it would be too radical. I have decided not to enter in any studies or further treatment.
If your mother does take the treatment and qualifies to take it I would like to hear how things went. It is designed for people with Leukemia primarily, and is not a cure, just to slow it down and keep it from spreading, but not really successful for people with Mucosal Melanoma.
Good luck if your Mother does take it.
