Tarceva/Avastin

My mom found out today that the Gemzar has not reduced the size of the tumors and 16 lesions were found in the liver. The doctor said GEMZAR is obviously not working for her and that leaves little options. She's 58....btw.The doctor suggests now she try TARCEVA and AVASTIN. Has anybody tried this regimen and had success or failure???

She is unsure if she will try this treatment at all. At this point, she has lost all hope.....................

I am so sorry for you and your Mother. My 59 year old father was just diagonsed about 5 weeks ago, and is undergoing Tarceva and Gemzar together. The Gemzar really knocked him down after only 1 and only 1/2 the dose the second treatment. My cousin has a friend who was treated with somthing called 5-FU I believe, he did very well and is still here after 2 years. Perhaps you could research that? I know what you mean about her perhaps not wanting to try another, this disease doesn't pose much hope medicaly, but we can always hope and pray for a miracle. God bless, and good luck.

I am so sorry for you....I hate it when a doctor blows off your options.  I am very new at this.  My husband was diagnosed in February this year.  He is taking GemZar.Cistplatin. and Tarceva.  I do not know how well this is working.  He feels fine except tired.  He will get test done May 6.  If one thing doesn't work, and she is able and willing...try something else.  You have our prayers.
