Does anyone have any good sources to find information on the causes that contribute to Multiple Myeloma?  My grandmother was recently diagnosed with the disease while my mother was diagnosed nearly 6 years ago.  My mothers brother died of Lukemia nearly 15 years ago.

We attributed the lukemia and Multiple Myeloma of my mother and her brother as coincidence, but now that my grandmother has been diagnosed, a coincidence is not likely.

Where do I go to try and find the causes or research as to the causes?

I dont think the causes of MM are clear.  The problem is damage to plasma cell DNA.  There are risk factors including radiation exposure and petroleum products exposure.  A genetic link does appear to exist in some patients.

Genetics play a huge part in determining cancer and who gets it.  My family had 4 members die from it so I figured we were carrying a weak gene.  You can monitor your blood and also eat a good healthy diet, small amounts of sugar.  Do all you can to boost your immune system.

Makes a huges difference.  A lot of people show up with MGUS first for Multiple Myeloma.  The bone marrow does not produces red blood cells and limits white cells that fight infection.

I would google to find the answers you are seeking as many articles are posted re this question.  All the best..CS
