GTX info

My mom is diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer almost two weeks ago. We have started Gemzar/Tarceva regiment. I'm trying to learn about other available options. I have come across GTX (Gemzar, Taxotere, Xeloda). It seems that there was a lot of talk about it in 2005 and early 2006 but I have not seen any new info since then. A phase II clinical trial at NYC started more than a year ago. Initial results was promising (response rate = 47%) but again no new data is available.

I was wondering if anybody has any info on this clinical trial or if anyone is on GTX right now.

yes the early results for GTX looked promising, however with most of these Gemzar combinations the 1yr survival and overall survival start to even out and look similiar with OS in the 9-12 month range.  Remember these Gemzar combos have shown a huge increase in survival over the old standard of 5FU.  Still not very good, but much better than it was.

Dear Oncrx,

I have read that average survival period for stage 4 PC patients taking Gemzar/Tarceva is about 6-7 months. Are you saying that GTX may extend this period to 9-12 months (n average)? If yes, this seems significant.

Thanks for your input

I think it depends on the particular combination and also the endpoint being measured.  Is the study looking at overall survival, time to progression, median survival, etc.? In general, Gemzar combinations have increased survival and the GTX combination appears to have one of the best response rates.
