Old friend gone

I have read most of the 500+ messages over the last 5 weeks since my old mate WOODY (11 years) was found to have bladder cancer. It's helped me a lot to come to terms with the news of his cancer that came out of the blue. Today I had the dear old fella put to sleep as his cancer had spread through his belly. Right now I am feeling selfish that I tried to treat him for as long as I did,but I think I would do the same again because it was so hard to let him go.

I imagine I can hear him right now  rattling the front gates of Heaven  the way he used to rattle ours when it was time for his walk.

I pray for all thoes involved in the fight against cancer & hope for only good news in the future. :)

Sorry to hear about your buddy. Cancer sucks, no matter if it is to people, dogs, or any of God's creatures. I have 2 buddies of my own and they are just like my kids, so I sympathize with your pain. I have lost several relatives to cancer, and now my Dad has it. Hopefully they can keep up with research and eventually CURE this horrible disease that hurts so many people in so many ways.

I am so sad to hear of Woody's passing.

Our dog Teddy is also 11 and when I look at him and think of what you went though with this disease, my heart goes out to you - especially when we realize that likely we too will soon be saying goodby to our Teddy.

We have only been on this web site a short while but it has been a terrific place for us. We have not read all 500+ letters but have gone through many of the recent ones. We are now trying to feed Teddy Graviola and is has been a bit of a fight (he hates the taste). We have been sprinking the contents of the capsules on his food and are trying to find the liquid version hoping that it may not be as difficult to get into him.

All the best,

Teddy's mom - Dallas

Thanks for the kind words Dallas, this week is one I will never forget but for all the wrong reasons. We found out about Woodys cancer 5 weeks ago & we thought we might be one of the lucky ones with him but it was not to be.We gave him Graviola (powder) but he hated it he woud not eat anything with it on. I don't think it would have mattered as his cancer spread so quickly.

All the best for all of you & Teddy.

Dear Woody's Dad,

So very sorry for your lose of your dear buddy. Please don't feel like you were selfish for trying to "help" him for so long. We all do our very best to aid all those we love. I too, lost my best buddy in November after a 12 year friendship. I miss him everyday especially at the change of seasons, like today. But I am sure they are all happy UP there and having a grand ole time, and healthy. Take comfort in that.

Hi,

I used to get liquid graviola at www.allvita.net.  It is very bitter so you still may have to mask it - I used to add it to just a bit of canned food.

Thank you Karen,

I have just ordered 12.5 mg tablets of Paw Paw to try with Teddy. This looks very interesting and you might want to check it out as well. The Graviola capsules that we currently are trying to get Teddy to take are 450 mg and it has been almost impossible. The smaller and more powerful Paw Paw (and by the sound of the web site) may be easier to mask in some small bits of food that he loves.

The web site that we looked at for Paw Paw is www.pawpawresearch.com

Teddy started caughing and we had his lungs checked today and they came back clear from an X Ray - the vet thinks that the stress of all the attention may be causing him to just be over stressed and he is doing this to himself. I hope we do not have anything else going on right now.

We also have a cat and her name is K.C. (for kitty cat) - how weird is that? She is 16 and still very healthy (thankfully).

We appreciate your interest in our Teddy - how is your Kacee?

Thanks again,

Teddy's Dad - Pat

Hi Pat,

Well, Kacee is doing remarkably well since she turned 15 on April 23 and was diagnosed with TCC way back in August of 2005!!!  All I give her now is pepcid and peroxicam.  In the beginning I was going crazy trying this and that - feeding her eggs, brocolli, carrots, etc. The vet had given her 6 months !  Now I just treat her like nothing is wrong (OK - We do spoil her just a tad - I honestly believe she knows she can get to us because "she is sick"). I'm glad you found this site - It was so comforting to me in the beginning -

Hi Karen,

We just pray that Teddy will be as fortunate as Kacee.

I could not agree with you more about the site.

We heard about a new method that finally worked for getting Teddy to take his pills - Ice Cream! - a spoonful (no more) with the pills in it works great. He loves Ice Cream so we should have thought about this sooner. It seems that the pills just slide down with the Ice Cream and the coldness must numb his throat as well - bottom line it has worked great twice in a row now and the Graviola pills are 450 mg.

Thanks for keeping up with the site.

Pat
