Hi,
I was diagnosed yesterday with Thrombocytosis. My platelet count was 1.15 million with my last lab draw yesterday. They have put me on Hydroxyurea 500mg. (Hydrea) I have taken 2 doses now, and all seems well. I haven't experienced any side-effects as of yet. I am not quite sure what all of this means. I would like to know more about diet. Limitations and what to expect with this condition. I understand that this drug has effects on the immune system. I recently retired as a salesperson in a department store. I guess just in time since I would be coming in contact with so many people. One thing I am not too happy about was the fact that my primary physician knew there was something going on with my platelets for 4 years but somehow failed to mention it to me. I have to say that I would have lived my life a little differently if I would have know that this was going to be my destiny. I am 68 and really didn't need to work. Towards the end of my days at the store, just getting there was a real arduous task. I have to say that I am angry that he dismissed me by not telling me. I now have an awesome specialist in a big hospital in the big city. He is very knowledgeable but I am always wanting to find out more.
I would like to meet up with other people that are just like me. People seeking knowledge and tips and new information. If you feel that you would like to chat with me, drop me a line.
Thank you for your time.
