Please read my post on Excessive Bowl Movement. I think you will find some insightful information their.
Stay strong...You will get through this....I know, I too.. have suffered the same condition. I used to go at least ten to twenty times a day. Now I go two to three times every other day. I takes longer to get done... but when I am done, I completly empty out.
My husband had his rectal cancer for 5 years before it was dx. he would not go see a dr. he was dx. in feb. 07. in march and april had rad for 25 rx. also on 5fu by mouth for 30 days. a colorectal specialist did his surg in july,07 and he has an ileostomy. He is now having chemo by infusion once every 3 weeks and taking the 5fu again by mouth for 2 weeks and then the cycle starts again. after the 1st go round it was not so bad. The sensitivity to cold liquids had been a problem and he washed hands in cold water which was a big mistake, it numbed his throat and he could not talk! But, now the big prob. is nausea, vomiting , and extreme fatigueand weakness he also is losing weight and has voice is getting raspy and weak..He is on compazine and i hope he improves, I got popscicles for him and they are staying down(the cold sensitivity has subsided and will not come back until next chemo infusion) Just to weite this and to vent helps but, if you can think of any thing to help I would appreciate it. Also want to mention that surgery showed the cancer had not perforated through the rectal war, the ends of the resected area were "clean" but 9 lymph nodes were removed from the groin and 6 were positive for ca cells. Before surg. he had a pet scan which showed no signs of met. and during surg. dr could not visually see any signs of met to liver or any other organs. Sorry for my ramblings. I am just looking for support and advece. Thanks in advance.
I hope the patient who has had reattachment gets better control soon. my husband's dr. has already warned us that bowel control might be a big problem in the future and may not ever get better since cancer was so close to anus and sphinchter muscles are involved.
