Just trying to find some answers

Hello to all.  I am a new member, and I'm looking for some answers. First off I am 42 and I live in a small town in Washington State.  I am just at the beginning of what I think may be a long journey. 3 weeks ago I was taken to the ER with horrific pain in my side and back.  I had this pain for a few weeks prior, but this was unbearable.  They did a CT scan and found that I have a solid mass on the tail of my pancreas and some others on both kidneys.  I am scheduled for a EUS test on Thursday.  I was wondering if anybody on this board has had one of those, and if they could tell me what it is like.  I am a little scared.  I was told by the Gastro specialist that I may have either cancer of the pancreas or Lymphoma.  Also does anybody suffer with pain more at night than during the day, I mean is that common.  I have been on Morphine and It still doesn't cut it.  During the day it is bearable, but at night I can't sleep at all.

Thanks!

I just had on three weeks ago. Nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before. A routine physical at the hospital. Into a gown, into bed and rolled to the procedure room. My doctor, his nurse and the anesthesiologist were in there. My doctor spoke with me a few minutes. They inserted an IV into my hand with the sedatives in it. I was asleep in 30 seconds and woke up in recovery around an hour or two later. Went home and slept some more and ate a light supper.

My throat was sore a few days but I was fine the day after. Yhey did do a fine needle biopsy through the EUS. I was scared too but it will be okay. Not bad at all.

Good luck to you.

I am not sure how much pain meds you are on but you need more. I have been there and it took 3 weeks to get it right and  still the pain (Mine was bone cancer multiple myeloma) I would speak to your doctor and ask what else he can give you.  I had oxycontin and morphine and could regulate the morphine myself.  Sometimes morphine keeps you awake, but general when you have such tremendous pain you need a bit more.  It is not going to hurt you at this stage so try and be comfortable and all the best in you tough journey.

Thank you for your information.  I have seen some good info on the internet.  I think the waiting is worse than the diagnoses.  I hope all goes well for you.  My doctor told me we are hoping for a happy surprise.  Whatever that means.  Again thank you for your reply.

Thank you and good luck to you also. I did get a happy surprise myself. It is very tiny and benign and I go back in three months to see how its going. I am symptom free so there is no pain to worry about.

God be with you.

I am so glad that you got good news with your biopsy.  Mine was good to the extent that I did not have any tumor cells they could see.  I had a rough time with the test. The mass is a little bigger than a golf ball.  They were only able to get a small sample, and what they saw was severe necrosis.  That is usually from heavy drinking.  I don't drink, so I have to go back after my kidneys are biopsied and they will do it again. Both of my DRs think I have lymphoma.  I guess that is a curable cancer, so we will see.  What a pain. I hope you have a good report this summer.

Good Luck.
