My wonderful dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer that had spread to the liver on April 13, 2007.  He had one chemo treatment on the 19th and passed away peacefully on the 22nd.  We are still in shock, as my dad was a strong 72 year old, up until the beginning of April.  Then, he started losing weight, was weak, and became jaundiced.  He had NEVER even been in the hospital before.

I'm not sure if anyone else has had this happen so quickly, but I would like to hear from you if I could.

Enjoy EVERY second you have w/ your mom, tell her you love her and watch for swelling and bruising in the feet, and a raspy breathing.  These are signs that God might be calling soon.

Blessing,

Lynda

I'm so sorry you have to go thru this.   My story is the same.

My mother, a very young and healthy 79 year old, was diagnose with PC, with a small mass in her liver. No symptoms at all.  SHe started Tarceva and chemo.  After 2 chemos, counts were low.  We had to wait 2 weeks and her counts were back.  One more chemo and the counts went too low again.  The chemo dose was adjusted and she is doing fine with it.  We won't know until the 15th, when she has her first scan, if it is working.  We can only pray.

Don't stop fighting for her.  They can hopefully adjust her meds.  If your current doctor won't do it, find another.

My thoughts and prayers are with you

Oh the horror.  My mum was diagnosed this week.  What a shock.  We have no history of anything like this.  She is 76 and mowing her lawn just a couple of weeks ago.  It seemed to come on so suddenly.  But I have been taking her to doctor for a year or longer with vague symptoms that looking back are all indicators.  But she was originally diagnosed with diabetes a year ago.

She is still in hospital doing tests but doctors choose their words very carefully and I am still trying to understand what we can expect.  She wants to go home and have the bad news filtered.  This is a surprise to me as she has always been the rock of the family.  But she looks so vulnerable right now.  I am sorry if this is too long but I am devastated.

why is sweling in the feet considered a sign that God may be calling soon?  My mom has this, developed in the last 10 days.  She has pancreatic with mets to liver.  Has had the whipple, is currently in a clinical trial.  I thought the swelling was due to liver not producing bilirubin?  I mean, who really knows, but could the swelling also signal something else?

Yes, Lynda, I have had this happen so quickly.  My stepmom was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and two weeks later she was gone.  She was only able to tolerate one chemo treatment.  After several days in ICU and a couple days in a regular room, she was brought home for hospice care.  She died two days later.  It was a complete shock as to how fast this devastating cancer took her.  You are right in recommending enjoying every second you have with your loved ones.

Peace to you, and God's blessings of comfort.

Maggie

my mom also had the swelling in the leg, then in the arms, and then in her stomach.  The swelling means that there is blockage so your body will stop functioning.
