My husband has incurable B-cell lymphoma, diagnosed 3 1/2 yrs ago at Stage III. The only treatment he's had thusfar was a round of Rituxin. The Rituxin ended a year ago; now the last PET (approx. Dec.) scan showed new growth in the nodes in his groin area. The dr wants to do another PET scan to "make sure" it's related to his lymphoma before he starts CHOP chemo therapy. Is this really necessary? It seems like his treatment is moving very slowly; could this be because his lymphoma is low-grade and the dr doesn't want to rush into chemo? Also, at the time of diagnosis (3 1/2 yrs ago), the dr's prognosis was that he would live 5 yrs. He's very tired in the afternoons and at night. His immune system is shot because of either the cancer or the Rituxin so he has to have gammaglobulin infusions every four weeks. The dr says he will have to have these the rest of his life. I'm starting to think the dr was right about his 5 yr prediction and am getting nervous. His nurse tells me she has seen people live with this type lymphoma until old age. Does anyone have any insight? Will he ever feel any better, or is he destined to be tired the rest of his life? Does anyone have any treatment ideas or opinions, Your opinions are appreciated.
