Hi, My mom has ovarian cancer stage 3. She had 3 rounds of cisplation, the last round was given for 2 years (once every 3 weeks) and eventually has damaged her bone marrow. because of that she can't get any more chemo. I'm looking for advice on alternative options that will help slow down the cancer or/and improve her quality of life or/and improve her immune system. Any advice, dosage information, where things can be bought and so will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Karyn

Dear Karyn, Go to this website....my sister is using this message for breast cancer, but can't get my mom to use it for ovarian. I might consider it for my breast cancer, especially since I'm not responding to the taxotere, . Unfortunately the cost may be prohibitive if it is not covered by insurance. http:// www.elkabest.org She has links out to many more sites regarding this. They are going to start clinical trials, but they have many, many success stories using this method. Also look up Hospital Santa Monica in Rosarito Mexico. My sister went to see Dr. Steven Ayre (or spelled Ayer) in Illinois. My sister is an RN and she and her doctor husband own and run a complementary medical clinic in Fond du Lac Wisconsin. They are really good at what they do. You might also want to ask your mom's doctor if any aromatase inhibitors would work for her. There is one called "Avastin" that is not chemo, and their company will not turn anyone down to to Financial or Insurance reasons. I would just google Avastin (I think they are made by Genentech) This is not alternative, but is another approach when chemo can't be used. My mom has never gone into remission from her OVCA, but she has a great quality of life. She goes out and gets vitamin IV's from my sister's clinic. She still goes out and gambles and drinks and is still alive at one and a half years! Hopefully much longer. I'll try to help. I learned a lot about OVCA by signing up to a newsletter at http://www.acor.org Good luck to you. I know it's not easy, but hopefully you'll find something to work.
