My husband has advanced liver cancer caused by Hep C.He was told he had 6 months. We did therasphere but now it has spread over that other side of his liver. So now the doctor has prescribed Nexavar. My husband has medicaid and medicare but every time we think we can get this drug we are told to fill out other applications.Does anyone have any suggestions! And also I would like to hear from someone who has lost a loved one to this and they were on Nexavar.Did it help and was the quality of life worth it.I have 4 kids ages 13,16,19 and 21.What should we expect when the time comes to say goodbye.

HI,

I read your message and m really sorry for your husband and will pray for him.

My father in law is suffering from 5 tumors(cencer) in this liver and has been said that there is no chance for him, but doctors here in Hong Kong have told us to take NEXAVER.  I want to know will this cure him or just give him a little more time but with painful side effects?  I really want to know the side effects of it.

Could u help if u have any information? pls e-mail me on

Hi There

I lost my beautiful father on the 14th of april. He was taking nexavar for 2 weeks. From the time he started on the tablets he quickly deteriorated. He aged 20 years in 2 weeks. The last few days he had no energy and was bedwritten,he slept all the time, had lost his appetite completely, vomitted on a couple of occassions. It was awful to be there and not be able to do anything to make him better. The oncologist told us that this nexavar was not a cure and really i dont think dad was strong enough to take nexavar we made him hoping that we were somehow going to cure him because we didnt want to believe that this was it for dad.I pray to god that they will find a cure for liver cancer one day.We didnt tell my dad that he was going to die so he never really said anything towards the end. After being on the inernet everynight trying to find something to try to help him and hoping that a man that loved life as much as him that out of the blue got sick late january this year has died. I am having such a hard time dealing with this.

My wish is that the doctors can put more time in diagnosing this terrible disease and saving peoples lives from it.

I last replied on 5-21-07 and today I buried my husband.I feel lucky that he went the way he did.He was talking to me 20 minutes before he passed. My husband started vomiting the brown coffee grind looking fluid. We left home at 3 in the morning on 5-30-07 to go to the emergency room because his doctor said that he needed IV fluids. He was acting just a little confused and anxious and had a red rash on both legs and feet when he was admitted to the hospital at 9:30 that same morning. His body temperature was 95 and we could not get it to go up.All of a sudden his blood pressure dropped really low and he began vomiting again. The nurses cleaned him up and told me to call my family because I was by myself.I did and I spent the next fifteen minutes saying goodbye and telling him it was alright to let go.I know he understood every word .It was a quick peaceful passing.I write this because just days ago I  was hoping to hear from someone who had been in this situation that I could talk to..He never got to take the nexavar the doctor prescribed because it was just to expensive.I hope one day this will be affordable to all who need it.

First off, I am very sorry about your father.

Unfortunately, I am in somewhat of a similar position as you were previously. Would you happen to have any Nexavar left?

Thanks.

My father has been living with HCC for the past 2.5 years.  He has finally at the point where there are no viable options left for him.  I asked his oncologist about nexavar (as well as sutent).  Could you please give me some ballpark figure as to how much a bottle of 120 tablets of nexavar costs?  Thank you so much in advance.

Hello,

My dad has been on Nexavar for about 2 weeks now. He was prescribed a bottle of 120 pills enough for a month and it costed a bit more than $6000. Fortunately, my parents both have insurance plans under the same company and were able to get Nexavar approved under coordination of benefits. As a result, my dads meds are covered 100%. I really suggest contacting your insurance company directly to personally appeal your case. We also asked the president of my dad's company for help as well, and he was able to not only expedite our appeal, but talk on our behalf. I wish you the best of luck =)

Sandra
