Hi-

My husband was diagnosed with Hodgkins spring of 05' and he has been in remission for almost 2 years.  We encountered a similar dilema,as everything in treating this disease is so expensive.  My advice would be to get online (this is what I did), and look up any and all cancer organizations that offer financial aid/support.  You will find that a lot of them do, although it is very time consuming filling out form, most want your income info. etc......  I suggest the caregiver do this for him.  Once you do that you will get responses, it is income based though, so it will just depend.  One organization sent us HUGE boxes each month of everything you could possibly need for hygeine, household etc......it was awesome.

Also, there is a website that offers prescription drug assitance, i cant remember, just search it.  You can apply for help with the prescriptions he will need along the way.  I know the last thing you probably want to do is paperwork and online research now, its such a hard time.  BUT IT WORKS!!!  You can get help.

The medical bills you will recieve from hospitals and individual Dr. offices,  call them tell them you need financial assistance.  They will either take care of this over the phone, some will mail you a form to fill out.  But they will help you.  Just be strong.  He will come out of this on top!!

Try www.LLS.org they offer co-pay assistance as well as financial aid to patients undergoing treatment. There are forms to fill out by both the patient and doctor, but in the long run it can be well worth it.

 Best of luck

If your brother's insurance company is denying health care file appeals. Also check out the Cancer organizations, maybe they can help. How about emergency Medicaid? If his salary is not to high maybe he can can apply for Medicaid. Speak with the social worker at the hospital, sometimes they can help. Some bigger hospitals have Charity Financial help. I know Columbia Presbyterian in New York does. Even though I have private insurance we have bills over 30,000.00, but I have filed appeals with HIP insurance and waiting for there decision. I have filed about 3 appeals and won  2 so far.

Best of Luck

Bernadette
