Nexavar results after 8 weeks, fighting HCC that is in the liver, stomach, and lungs.

Wednesday was positive and at the same time disappointing!  6 weeks ago after 2 weeks on Nexavar and 6 weeks since the scan that discovered the growths, the doctor said the cancer showed “significant shrinkage”, the scan results this week showed “no significant growth or shrinkage”.  This was the disappointing side of the results.  Has Nexavar run it’s course?  At best the breast will be kept at bay or will same of the cancer cells “adapt to Nexavar” and will start growing again.  My friend is not one the lucky, less then 1% that Nexavar kills everything detectible.  Of course since the drug is too new no one knows.  The phase three results will be out in just over a week, maybe we’ll all know more then.  My friend’s doctor will be at that conference and maybe during the next visit I will extract unpublished information.

The positive side is the scan did show some of the cancer tumors had “dark” areas inside and others showed signs of hemorrhaging which make them look larger, as the fluid is expelled around the outside of the tumor.  Dark areas and hemorrhaging mean the tumors are being damaged.  Nexavar is a two sided attack drug.  Maybe this second scam shows the signs of the other attack method?

The story will continue in another 4 weeks, June 20th when the next scan is done.  That will be at 12 weeks the same time period that ended the phase two trials of Nexavar for treating HCC.  If you have not read about the trials do so.  The Nexavar HCC trials ended 2/12/07.  At your search engine type in Nexavar Liver 20 articles on phase 3 results after 12 weeks will appear.  Read only one as they are all the same!

I hope that smaller or fewer cancer growths mean that the drug then can attack the remaining tumors in more strength.  My friend continues to be getting back to her old self.

I would love to hear from anyone who has been on Nexavar since the fall of 2006.  How are you doing?
Sincerely, Ed

At times I type too fast and learned to read by sight, thus the word breast "looks" right.  I meant to spell beast.  No one said any thing hope I didn't affend anyone.

Have another update.  Amount of fluid drained weekly.  Pre-Nexavar about 6.5 liters were drained weekly.  That's .92 liters per day for you numbers people.  On 5/22 the day before the 8 week scan,  5.3 liters were drained since the prior drain 6 days before.  Thats .88 liters a day, and yesterday after 7 days since prior drain 5.5 liters were drained.   That's  .78 per day.  Do realize that diet, and placement of the drain tube maybe factors involved besides the cancer.  In how much is drained.  One thing is that no longer at day 6 and 7 is the swelling and "heavy load" really "painful".   The color of the last four drains has been that like a lite beer, and can see the label on the other side of the liter bottle.  Per-Nexavar it was purple and about 6 weeks ago was a ruby red grape fruit or cranberry color.

Anyone else noted color on volume changes?  Sincerely, Ed
