I need help getting information about developing a enlarged thyroid while undergoing radiation treatment for breast cancer. The right side of my thyroid is enlarged after completing 24 out of 33 treatments.  The Rad Oncologist says it is not related to the treatment and I disagree. He has scheduled an ultrasound but  it will not be done for two weeks. I am considering  stopping my radiation treatment until I get more information.  Can anyone help me with information.  Thank you....Marilyn

Did you have any lymph nodes removed?  What doctors don't tell you, and what I had to find out from the lymphodoema website, is that radiation affects that area.  Mine is a swelling.  The radiation also causes implants to harden.

I was unhappy with my radiologist's answer too (he told me the swelling was caused by scar tissue), so I went to my surgeon, who referred me to another radiologist (that same day) and I had an ultrasound that same day also.  It was just as I suspected - fluid build-up due to the absence of lymph nodes.
