Hi, I am living in Australia, and pretty disillusioned with the way I was told about my cancer, and the lack of practical advice, and after care for surgery.  The only information I have been given is what I have found out from the net.......I have early stages of kidney cancer, fortunately picked up from investigation from an ultrasound.  I have 3 weeks before surgery, but am concerned about recovery time and what to expect.  I work 2 jobs, and have sick cover in one, but am casual on the other.   I have an 18yr old boy at home and 20 yr old living away.  I am separated from my parter.  I have a great support team in friends here - my family live 800 ks away.  Just looking for some practical advice about what to expect - and did anyone experience such highs and lows, and tiredness?????Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.

Hope all went well with your surgery.  I had an open partial nephrectomy in April,  They removed the tumor, part of my kidney and a rib.  I was in the hospital for 5 days then on my way to recovery.  It was certainly a painful experience.  I did get my self to go into work after two weeks.  I can't say I really was myself until the full 6 weeks.  I still continue to occassionally have pains at the surgical site.  Life is good though . . let me know if you have any questions. . Your body feels so many things after this surgery.
