Subject: My Dad Recently diagnosed with cc and liver cancer
Date: 05/28/2007
Hello everyone. This is my first post on here and I have to say this a very supportive site. Well, my dad was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma last month (April) with a liver mass on the right lobe. It all started around August of 2006, when he had severe abdominal pain and they discovered he had gallstones. We waited and waited for appointments with doctors and they did not remove them until we had to bring him to the ER in November. Three whole months of pain. He couldn;t stand it any longer, he was vomiting and about to pass out from the pain so it took a trip to the ER to get something done. After a few months, the pain did not go away and also high levels of alkaline phosphatase on his liver panel, something still wasn't right. In January 2007, he had an MRCP done and that is when the mass was discovered on his liver. He later had ct scans and a biopsy and the conclusion was that he had cholangiocarcinoma with a liver mass. He seen a liver specialist in Houston, TX and he decided to go in and try to remove the mass since previous ct scans had shown the cancer not to be anywhere else. On May 9, 2007 my dad had his operation and 60% of his liver was removed. The doctor came out afterward and said that after he took out the 60%, that he seen another spot but that he couldn't remove it because it would be too much of his liver to take out.So, he said he took a biopsy of it and the rest of the liver and would have the results in a few days. Four days later (mother's day) he came in my dad's hospital room and said it was cancer. Sadly, we listened as he said that he would refer my dad to an oncologist and that he could possibly take small doses of chemo. Well, that appoinment with the oncologist is Wed, May 30. We will go and listen to all the options and go from there. From what I have been researching and also from what a lot of people say is that liver cancer doesn't respond well to chemo? I was wondering if anyone has chose not to receive any medication and just went on a veggie diet, and if so, how has it worked out ? Also, has anyone used essiac tea ?? Thank ya'll very much for your time... Paula

I am sorry to hear we are in the same boat, my dad was diagnosed last month, unfortunately it has spread to hit Liver, the Dr. would like to try to operate next month and remove part of his Liver and remove it from his duct.  He is so weak right now and I just don't see how he could recover from surgery.

How is your Dad feeling at this stage?

My MIL was diagnosed with bile duct cancer about 3 weeks ago.  She has been being treated in Houston.  They tried to do the surgery on 5/31 but the cancer had spread to her entire liver and the membrane on the kidneys.

The oncologist will not give us any expected time frame.  She is in stage 4.  They went in today and put in  metal stint in place of the plastci one.

They are now wanting to do the 5FU treatments for 3 weeks 5 days a week.

Everything I am reading does not look good for her.  Does anyone have any experience with her case.

Hello

My gorgeous husband has been diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma in the last 2 months.  He has been in chronic pain prior to this for 2 months.  The doctors here in NZ say that there is nothing they can do for him.  We have been together for nearly 30 years and have four beautiful daughters.  How can I accept that news?  I cant there must be something we can do.  Our families are prepared to help get us to theStates or whereever to help this situation.  Does anyone know anything that could be helpful - like best places to go - we are looking at going to MA Anderson Medical centre in Houston - but there is also a place in San Diego doing FAN_C Clinical trials.  His cancer is advanced and has in a short space of time spread from the bile ducts to his liver.  Please help with any information you may have.  We still have hope that we can do something and I will do anything to keep him with me and my kids for longer.  I ma praying for a MIRACLE and hope that youmay have some helpful advice for us to take.

HE has been diagnosed with a Primary Cholangiocarcinoma to the common bile duct.

My husband has never been sick in his life before, was a fit, healthy active and hard-working man.  How does this disease strike anybody like him or others who are the same?  This is unreal isn't it.

All the best to you and your search for your Dad....our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family also.

If you can help please respond.  I look forward to hearing from you and others who may be able to help.

Lovey
