Hi,

My mom got diagnosed with Gallbladder cancer stage IV in March. She completes her first round of treatments in 2 weeks. She has been trying to make appts. at Sloan Kettering and John Hopkins for a second opinion but it has not been easy. Does anyone know of any specialists there in this field that we can get into contact with quickly?

Thanks,

Ariela

I am sorry about your mom.  Mine was just diagnosed with the same last week and they told me it is inoperable.  She is currently at Mount Siani and we were turned away from Sloan Kettering because of Insurance reasons.  If you find out anything helpful for this type of cancer (Gallbladder, Bile Duct, Liver) let me know and I will do the same.

All the best,

Sherry

Hi Sherry,

I am sorry Sloan did not work out for you. You might want to try University of Cincinnati(Ohio), Where Dr. Malek Safa works. Whom I heard was excellent in this particular field of Gallbladder cancer. My family and I are always seeking new breakthroughs and I will gladly share anything upon learning. We are walking in the same shoes. Call this number:

Dr. Safa is working on an experimental drug for this type of cancer. Also Dr. Daniel Laheru at John Hopkins is very kind. He'll answer e-mails personally. He also specializes in GI cancers. Good Luck!

I know you wanted someone near NYC. He's already has a drug approved by the FDA for renal failure. He's working on a drug for Gallbladder Cancer to stop the progression.

Wish you all the best,

Ariela

Try Dr. D'Angelica or someone in that group.  They are all on the MSK website.  My dad has GBC and Dr. D'Angelica did his surgery.   Their bios are also on the website.

Thanks for the reply. I finally made an appointment for my mother with Dr. Abu- Alfa at MSK. At JP in Baltimore with Dr. Dan Laheru. Although none of these experts actually just specialize in Gallbladder cancer. Please e-mail me any new information on new treatments for this type of cancer.
