I went to the dermatologist on friday and upon his examination he found what he called a problematic mole on my back.  It is shaped like a triangle and the size of a pencil eraser.  He said he didnt think it was melanoma yet but by the time I was 40 it would be.

I am so fearful and don't know how I can wait two months to get it removed.  I've also found out that i am pregnant (so happy) but this mole is overpowering my mind. I'm 26 years old with a 3 year old son and one on the way.

Is there anyway that I can try to bump up my biopsy or should I just wait it out> I'm really scared

One thing I've learned with treatment of my daughter's CP and, now, my father's MM is that you have to be very proactive with your treatment. I see no reason why you have to wait 2 months for the biopsy or it's results. I would ask your primary to intervene or ask for a referral to a more aggressive dermatologist. Don't take "no" for an answer. This disease moves quickly.  Best of luck to you.

That is crazy to make you wait that long for a biopsy!!!! I had my MM removed by my PCP. I saw it, said "hey this itches and it looks funny" he said it looks okay to me, but lets take it off to be sure and about 10 days later, I had my diagnosis....

Melanoma is too aggressive to wait. Call your PCP or another Derm and FIGHT to get that sucker off!!! Better safe than sorry and you will sleep much better!

Best of luck to you!

I live in Canada and have to get a referral by a family doctor or dermatologist to see a specialist.  I've called that dermatoligst that i saw on friday, and they have not returned any of my messages.  I have an appointment with a nurse practitioner  tomorrow at 5 and I will try to express my concern and frustration.  I'm trying to be so optimistic about my pregnancy and my mole........  I wish there were more pay clinics here in Canada.  Perhaps more people wouldn't be left in the dark.

I appreciate your messages.

You don't need a dermatologist to have a mole removed.  Some primary care physicians can do it and any surgeon can do a excisional biopsy.  Your GYN could do it.  My father (GYN) removed dysplastic moles all the time.  It is a simple procedure, even I could do it.  The specializing comes in if it is proven cancerous or maybe if it is especially large.

I got in today and got the mole off of my back.  the doc told me to call in one week for the results and if need be he will dig deeper. I'm praying it all comes back well.  Just having the thing off of me made me feel somewhat better.  Now I'm sore and playing the waiting game.  Thanks for everyones comments.  I was pushy and got in 5 weeks earlier.  I probably annoyed the staff so much by calling, but it was worth it.

Fight and keep fighting until you are happy - all the other people who replied are right - don't wait - get it sorted out quickly - I wish you all the luck in the world.

1st - I would want to know if this doctor's focus was on skin cancer - if not - find another. 2nd I had this 27 years ago. I go in every 12 weeks and if something is seen - it is removed and checked. I would think that any good doctor who saw something - would shave it for path. Yes it is good to have it checked - and no there is no need to wait. His statement about years down the road also gives me pause. Nobody can say when irrigular cells can change to cancer. A short time - a long time - however I have learned that if you have a good doctor (skin cancer Dr only) that anything he or she sees that might be a problem is removed while you are there. Thus - I would do two things - 1st find a top Doctor who's area is the area of our problem - and then - get it removed (not a big deal) and be sure.  Caught early - (look at me) life goes on - so the sooner the better. I wish you the best - please write how it goes.

If I can help with any questions - I will be glad to try.
