Subject: Duffy was just diagnosed with TCC -- Treatment
Date: 06/06/2007

My ten year old best friend, Duffy was diagnosed on Monday with TCC.  Duffy (Charles MacDuff, II is his full name) is a Westie.  He has been an unbelievable companion for over ten years, taking him to the office everyday and even our law firm mascot.  He is tenacious and smart, always up for some tug of war with his favorite toy or a new tennis ball.

Well, Monday was a huge shock and now we are in for a fight against the cancer.  We have an appointment with an oncologist for Friday and even though his bladder is 65% affected we are told that surgery may be an option but don't know yet.

We are starting on Piroxicam tomorrow and possibly mitoxandrone.  We have switched food to a cancer diet.  High Protein, High Fat, low carbs and broccoli.

I have read a little about the graviola but haven't seen too many hard facts.  Is there anyone out there that might be able to help shed some light on what has worked, what hasn't.

My goal is obviously to irradicate this horrible cancer but also to keep Duffy as full of energy and comfort for as long as possible.

Thanks and well wishes to anyone else who is fighting this for their pooch.

 Eric

HI Eric-

Try chopped spinach mixedwith INNOVA wet dog food and white chiecken breast.  ALSO DHA anit-cancer all natual DHA oil called Expecta-  you can get at Walmart.  My dog is doing amazingly well.

We decided no peroxicam.  I also give her flaxoil (1 tablespoon) with 1/4 cup cottage cheese each morning and at night.

The DHA she gets 400 (2 pills) in the AM and PM.  she is 60lbs.  Your dog may just need one AM and one pm.

Good luck-

Sandi

Eric, I'm new to this forum, finding your message in my search to treat MY westie's TCC.  (I have 3, the newest being Andrew McDuff!)  McKenzie is 12 and was diagnosed with Stage II or III, so there are no good options.  Can you give me an update on your MacDuff, please, and whether you decided to try Graviola?  After reading the limited info available on-line, I ordered a bottle but haven't begun it yet.  We are about to start peroxicam and have her on an experimental human drug too.  If it works, I'll share more details asap.  So far, her platelet count is climbing after only a week, so that's good news.  Good luck to all.

Stephanie
