Hello, I had a BCC removed with a Mohs Prodecure from my upper lip in March 2007. I am now researching the Efudex treatment. My dermatologist recommended it. I have multiple AKs on my cheeks and nose.
I grew up in California, running swimming, biking and generally hanging out in the sun. Moved to Hawaii for 7 years. The last 5 years I have been using Retin A and suncreen religiously.
The prospect of further Mohs on the AKs because they turned into something else makes me very afraid. I originally went to the doctor to have two milia removed. One of the milia turned out to be the BCC and here I am with an inch long scar that has a divot in the center of it.
I guess I am afraid that I will be one of the unlucky few who comes out with hyperpigmentation or brown spots on my skin once I finish. Currently my fair skin is only slighty mottled with the AKs because of the Obagi regimen I followed. I have blue eyes and dark hair. Since my diagnosis I always wear unscreen and a hat with wrap around sun glasses. This will be a lifelong habit for me going forward.
The other question I have is about cortisone creams. My doc has prescribed a cortisone Lipocream for itching. From what I understand cortisone creams can damage skin when used long term. What exactly constitutes long term?
Does anyone have experience with lingering redness or brown hyperpigmentation after treatment with Efudex. I'm thinking 10 weeks post treatment and healing.
Thanks!
Tracy
