Hi everyone,

This is my first post, but have read many of your stories and advice which has provided comfort over the past several months.  I had my thyroid removed b/c of cancer in Oct. & Nov. and am getting ready to come off my synthoid for the first time to do my scans, etc.  I am a little nervous b/c my doctor said I will feel worse than I did the first time before I started the meds. after surgery and I31.  I would greatly appreciate any experiences that may help.  Thanks!

To tell you the truth I got through my last set of scans pretty well.  My dr. gave me two thyrogen injections exactly 24 hours apart and then I took the RAI pill.  The scans followed the next couple of days.  I will go this route every time,  You don't have to go off your synthroid and wait weeks for your levels to raise and going on the LID.  My husband and I researched this type of method and one of my doctors that suggested this routine has 43 years with a highly rated medical facility.  I would look into this and talk with your dr. about your alternatives.

good luck

My doctor let me go the Thyrogen route for a scan but he doesn't want me to do it for the "mop up" radioactive iodine I am taking on Tuesday. I felt just fine wile taking the Thyrogen and I was able to do my job with no problem. However, insurance only paid a portion and I had to pay $360 out of my pocket. Good luck!

My doctor did share this option with me, but said for this second treatment I had to go the long route but next time I could do the injection.  Anything not to be taken off the synthroid!  Thank you for the reply and good luck to you also.

From all my reading I thought I would be able to stay on my beloved synthroid and get they Thyrogen injections. I went to the endo last week for the beginning of the RAI discussions and the Doc informed me that this was not approved by the FDA for RAI ablation for cancer. He said only for follow-up scans. I was very disappointed. I went off synthroid last Thursday. Went on 25 mcg of cytomel for the next month then off that for 10 days with a low iodine diet then RAI on July23 if my TSH is over 30. I am feeling just like before surgery. Tired, lethargic, irritable. Is this what everyone else is doing. I had Completion TT in may 07 with lymph node removal. i had papillary mass 1.7cm. anyway, i guess its only temporary but it still stinks. Life goes on and I just try to keep up!

Best Wishes to everyone!

It could always be worse

God Bless
