Hi there. I'm totally at a loss. I don't know where we're going or what's exactly happening.
My mom (age 73) was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer July '06. She's stage 4B. When diagnosed, it had already metastasized to the liver. She became part of a clinical trial and has done very well. She had a full nine months of chemo and then started feeling poorly from what we believe to be the toxicty. She's had a couple of extended breaks from chemo but now has been pulled from the study and is on another extended break. She's supposed to be recovering but she doesn't seem to be. She is weaker now and each day seems to stay the same. Her taste buds have all reverted back to nil and fatigue is constant. Her GI system is crazy. In anyone's experience, is this just a bump in the road or is it the beginning of the end?? How do you know whether to just wait and see what happens; how do we know to just her time to feel better or do we start looking in hospice options? Do we call the doctor constantly or do we look in to things like VNS or Cancer Care support teams? WHAT DO WE DO!!?? Thanks for any input.
