Hi, I am trying to find someone who is a survivor of Hodgkin's. I have been in remission for almost 4 years. But my immune system is just not the same, I get colds all the time and I cough constantly. I have been to so many doctors and they put me on so many different medicines but none of them help. Before I was diagnosed, the doctor believes that I had it for many years. I had been coughing for probally 8 years. I took chemo and radiation, so I am sue there is a lot of scar tissue. Hi I am new to this website and as such I can only tell you what my brother has gone through with this illness.

He was diagnosed in 1980 with this disease. He had a growth on his neck for about three years prior to his diagnosis. Back then, they gave him massive doses of radiation therapy only. His spleen was removed, which incidentally also helps with your immunity system. Was yours removed as well?

His doctor at the time, told him never to get the regular flu shots but to get a pnumovax (? spelling) shot every other year.

He is relatively healthy in this respect. He also has not gotten his pnuemovax shot for sometime due to the expense.

He has not been considered in remission since he has tumors still, so far not maligant but on his spinal cord.

Currently I am trying to help him with a second diagnosis/treatment for his atypical meningioma which is growing in and around his spinal cord. They (the doctors) believe that this developed because of the massive radiation he received.

As for your struggle, ask your doctor about the pnuemovax shot and if it is right for you.
