I am a caregiver for someone in stage 3 of colon cancer in radiation and chemo who has acute constipation and cramping pain. The doctors just keep giving him more pain meds which cause more constipation. Laxatives no longer help. Anyone with any ideas or experiences which may have helped. Please reply.

MY brother too has this problem. The pain gets so bad we end up in the emergency room. This happens at least 2 times a month and they have my brother on stool softeners etc.... We too are searching for someone that has had success in overcoming this problem while being treated for colon cancer. It is really the only part of the treatment that my brother has a real problem with. It at times will set him back with his progress as the hospitaliztion and pain meds don't help and usually they don't allow any food during these times. It has gone up to 6 days without food and he can't afford to loose any weight. Hope someone out there has some advice for us I understand completely this dilema God Bless

I Blended about a 1 inch piece of whole leave aloe vera plant with dads fresh organic lemon juice. With in 30 minutes the bowels released the waste. I am trying to get him to also try the coffee enema. He refuses. I notice when he is constipated that its very hard to keep his ph alkalined. But when they are moving the body is easy to keep alkaline.

Dr. Nicholas Gonzalez, New York City medical doctor who treats terminal cancer patients with great success has this to say:

"In this toxic world, the liver is always overloaded, particularly when you have an illness. The backed up toxic waste makes you feel sick, & we believe it can also lead to tumor formation. Coffee enemas help the liver clean out, help eliminate toxic chemicals more efficiently, and make you feel better."

My husband had this problem too caused by the anti-nausea and pain meds combined.  In the beginning of treatment, the chemo nurses kept telling him to use a stool softener.  Now my husband is a man who's never been constipated in his life, more likely to have the opposite problem.  But stool softeners did NOTHING.  I don't even know why they recommend them because stool softeners do exactly what they are called - they do not help the bowel move the stool along.  A laxative does that.  So for anyone reading this my advice is - don't waste your time with stool softeners.  The issue isn't that it's hard, it's that it's not moving!

My husband could only find relief with a Fleet enema.  Laxatives by mouth did not work. No amount of fiber or natural foods worked.  He did also one time use that stuff they have you drink when you're having a colonoscopy - magnesium something I think - when the enema didn't even work.  His next step was the emergency room.  Fortunately the nasty colonoscopy prep drink worked, because that is not an ER trip you want to make.

We were warned about constipation but really, had no idea it would be so bad and so very difficult to avoid.

My best to you ~
