My 37 yr old brother has been fighting tongue cancer.  And to add... he's been doing a kick butt job at it!!!  I'm so proud of him.

He's had about 17 radiation treatments and needs 25 total.  And another type of radiation called brachitherapy (spelling?) will be done at another oncology location, which will finish his last 10 sessions in implant therapy.  He just finished his 2nd chemo treatment and his last..... He has blistered lips as well as blisters in his mouth.  His neck is burned and pealing from his radiation treatments.  But this is ALL normal.  I know he's going to get worse before he gets better.  He's been extremely positive and is keeping us grounded.  The tumor in his mouth has shrunk by about 65% if not more.  What has help him with his mouth sores is gargling w/ baking soda and water.... he does a bottled water at least 3x's per day.  They've also prescribed him Stanford mouthwash... it's a swish and gargle.

You may want to consider having a PEG tube.  He's been using his for the last 3 weeks at least.  He's still loosing weight because of the chemo and the vomiting.  From what I've read, he will likely need the PEG tube for at least 2 weeks post radiation.

I hope this has helped, but it sounds like you both are close in days with the number of treatments you're at.   Did they do a mask for you?

God Bless you and your family.. and you will be in my prayers.
