Subject: sutent for stomach cancer?

hree moths ago my brother in law Peter (45 years) was diagnosed with stomach / adenocarcinoma cancer, unfortunately, metastasis at the liver was discovered. He’s been on chemotherapy all this time, after evaluation it was confirmed that the tumor at the stomach is stable; however, the metastasis is spreading even more.

This week he was proposed different alternatives for the future treatment, one of them is to become part of clinical trial study for treatment with SUTENT.

Does any one know about this kind of treatment??

Any information will be highly appreciated.

Hi,

Sutent has been used among RCC (Renal Cell Carcinoma) patients since 2004 in the series of clinical trial until FDA approval.  Please check out Pfeizer website or the kidney cancer message boards in this Cancer Compass.  There are an abundant of valuable information on Sutent from tons of lovely patients.  My wife has been on Sutent (RCC) since Feb'07 and the drug has effectively shrunk several nodules in her lung.  The side effects are also bearable and not as harsh as the traditional chemo.  I know that Sutent is also used on some breast cancer patients but not certain about stomach cancer.

Hope this help...

I have a very progressive stage 4 breast cancer. I was being treated for 4 months by an  Ocologist with 3 Chemo medicines in an ivy for 3 hours a day every three weeks. I had 6 tumors in my breast, 2 under my arm,  3 in my neck and 4 in my lungs.  The 3 in my neck disapeared and the ones  under my arm and in my neck got a little smaller but the ones in my lungs were getting larger.  I was told I had 1 to 2 years to live.  I decided to go to the Cancer Treatment Center of America and they put me on the trial study drug Sutent.  In 2 months almost all of my tumors are gone, The largest one in my breast was 3.7c. when we started and it is now under 1c.  3 of the tumors in my lungs have stayed the same and the last one has gotten slightly bigger.  I was told that it takes a little longer to penetrate the organs but I think this drug is working much better then the 3 that I was doing.  I am also not nautious anymore and my hair has started growing back.  The only side effect that I am having is a sore tongue but that is much better then being sick all day or being hooked up to an ivy for 3 hours.  The Sutent is in pill form and I take 3 a day.

Good luck,

Audrey

Go for the SUTENT  treatment. It is no longer a trial therapy but is approved for several cancers.  It has helped me with neuroendocrine cancer . I was diagnosed five years ago,   had SUENT for two years and now I am considered as stable.  The side effects are really minimal.  I was tired during the last week but that was all.  If you can get it as a trial treatment it will be free otherwise it is horrendously expensive.  So try to get on a clinical trial.  Good luck.
