I am 78, no incidents with ET for 8 years. Treated with Hydrea for 7 years with Platelets in 300-600,000 range and Hgb 9 - 10. Lately Hgb down to 8, started Agrylin, terrible side effects, then Interfuron, terrible side effects, now no treatment at all except asperin. Now feeling 100% again but worried about platelets going too high. Dr. says many do not need treatment only to be watched if platelats get to 2 million range. Please comments on no treatment with platelets so high. I did get transfusions when Hgb got down to 8. Any comments very much appreciated.

For access to a host of people with myeloproliferative disorders including ET, and for answers to frequently asked questions about this family  of diseases, try mpdinfo.org. There is a link to a listserve where people post questions and get answers from other patients and health professionals. They may have someone with a history like yours.
