Hi, am going to toronto this week to have ablatherm, of course I'm a bit nervous, any of you out there want to reply back concerning their experience? It seems that both ablatherm and sonoblate claim that the differences in the machines are better for themselves. Am 57 yrs old and if I was 10 yrs older I wouldn't do a thing. Is this all a bunch of s... to castrate us? vtmax

What stage and what type of tumor (Gleason Score) and PSA do you have.  At 57 you should have aggressive treatment and even if you were ten years older.  Even much later depending on health and cancer parameters.

Thanks for writing, my psa is7.6 up from 7.2 a year ago, last years biopsy did not indicate cancer altho they said there were some areas atypical. My gleason is 6 and it's on both sides and I'm T2. I'm doing it this thurs. and am hoping.  max

If it difusely involves the prostate then HIFU is not indicated even in countries where it is done commonly.  You either have surgery, ext. radiation or implant.  With those treatments (any one of them) Your cure rate is better than ninety percent.  What is the cure rate with HIFU, no one really knows for sure and like I said, with diffuse involvement you are not a candidate even for a study.

I underwent the Turp\HIFU procedure about 4 months ago and had it done in Munich, My results so far are extremely positive with a PSA two months ago with 0.0005 or undetectable after my 14+ PSA prior and a Gleason 7. HIFU amthough not accepted in the US besides trials, is recognized by the medical boards and Gorvenments of some of the most advanced countries like most of Europe, Russia, Japan and many others..

At the Munich Clinic I went to, they had done over 1,600 procedures in a perios of about 12 years, and it's a State run Institution. The head of Urology is world reknown and both himself and his staff were involved in my procedure.

I am extremely happy with my results, and myself did not go to Maple Leaf on account they had about a year experience against the one I decided on. Also although they use Ablatherm they do not do the TURP, and I had been advised it would help me.

Good Luck

Can you e-mail info and contacts for HIFU procedure in Munich? Do you

have to be recomended by your Uroligst?, also what is the cost for entire

trip, including medical, hotel, length of stay in Munich and food.

 Thanks

Nor.

witchdoctor must be a "conventional" doctor, since he makes all of the same statements - even those that are wrong!  Since when do cutting, burning or druging have a 90% cure rate?????

You also claim that no one knows Hifu's record.  Perhaps those that refuse to look at the data don't know, but the rest of us do.  Hifu has a succes rate at least as good as any "conventional" therapy, and better than most, yet without nearly as many side effects.

Let's not forget, at one time not too many years ago, Lobotomies were considered good medicine, and there were those who actively supported them.  Where are they now?
