Support Needed

Hi, my name is Brenda..and my American Eskimo Dog Shasta was just diagnosed with bladder cancer last Friday, she is 15 yrs old.  The Veterinarian felt that due to the progressive stage of her cancer, and her age there was no hope...and her ureter would be blocked off in about 2 weeks or so and she would more than likely expire.  The cancer is PINCHING off her ureter.  The cancer was diagnosed by contrast radiography but was hard to get the bladder full enough due to the tumor pressing on the her bladder...they could only fill bladder 1/3 before she would expell.  So I had radiographs sent to a specialist and he confirmed it is cancer as well.  The doctor didnt have any suggested treatment and I think he was thinking I was going to have her euthanized.  I just cant do it without knowing that I tried everything in my means to help her.  In October 2006 she had a bad UTI, we thought was only problem ,and her previous Veterinarian put her on Metacam and Zonoquin. She cleared right up and then started having symptoms again in March of 2007 and we have been treating her with antibiotics which didnt solve the infection.  So we did a culture and found that she was resistant to all pennicillin drugs.  So we tried some other flurocarbon meds, and it still wouldnt clear the infection...then that led me to the Xrays..and the diagnosis of bladder cancer.   I req the Dr start her on the piroxicam and zenoquin..and req also we use cyotec or misoprostol to protect her gastric system.  My dog has had pancreatitis in past, and only eats royal canine intestinal diet and if very susceptible to stomach problems or diarrhea.  I also want to try the Graviola, and want to get her on Transfer Factor.  I just was hoping that someone could tell me if I am doing the right thing, or if they have any other suggestions.  And I am so happy that I found this site and lovely message board..otherwise, my baby would be doomed for sure.  Thanks everyone for your insight and I look forward to learning more.

DHA called Expecta at Walmart..check the weight requirement.

My dog takes 2 each morning and 2 at night.  60 lbs. now she is 68 pds.

POLY MVA to boost immune.

We elected no chemo..just natural, good foods like Spinach mixed with cooked chicken or ground turkey, fresh bottled water, wet dog food called Innova..TRUST ME..the well known cancer doctor gave her one month without peroxicam Feb. 26th..she is doing amazingly well.

It's all about the quality of life.  Let me know how you do..and congrats to have  dog 15, Daisy is only 10 1/2 and was diagnosed 7 months ago..we must be doing something right !!!

 

OH! and I tried the transfer facter too, but it can irritate the cancer.I noticed Daisy panted a lot..be careful..the above are all naturals and I believe DAISY will be an amazing statistic to this ugly disease.

Thank you Sandi for your help.  I feel so much better and less saddened today knowing that there are natural medications I can give her, and it works!  For days I was stressing on what to do, and how to go about it.  Now I feel confident that with more TLC, and this regime of medicine I can help her as much as possible.  Thanks again.  I will try the above meds mentioned.

Some tips for you:

WHen giving pills, cream cheese is best..they love it.   Most doctors prescribe Peroxicam that stalls the growth of tumors..well, we elected not to do that.  Daisy panted heavily, but we may start again..this is when she was also on transfer factor..so maybe it ws the transfer factor that made her feel uncomfortable.  The Perixcam is HARD on the stomach so best to take a pepsid with it.  Ask your ONCOLOGIST (cancer vet) who is a specialist.  I have learned a lot.. 

 

Just wanted to tell you that other info to give you piece of mind.

Daisy may live many months, but she is HAPPY..still wags her tell.

The only sign she has is hard to pee.  The DHA is helping.  I am starting to take it too.

If you are still on the board - I hope Daisy is doing alright.

I also use the Poly-MVA but have run out of ways to get my dog to swallow it.  We put it in soup, broth etc.  How do you do it?
