my dad unergone a whipples surgery last october 2007 due to adenocarcinoma on the second portion of the duodenum near the pancreas, we spent 2 mos in the hospital due to some complications after surgery... though he's recovering now but he had complaints of frequent hiccup and flatulence, and sort of dyspepsia nowadays... what would be the possible causes of this? thank you very much

i am sorry to be replying so late to your concern. is your dad taking any kind of pancreatic enzymes? my husband is taking these with all of his meals and at night. in fact, just recently the doctor increased the dose because he is experiencing  increased  gas and stomach distention. some people take the "purple pill" nexium for their stomach. it would be a good idea to talk to your doctor or a dietician..or both. i hope this has helped at least a little. jimandkathy

Hello, I am taking Nexium and it works wonders!!!  I just had surgery on June 7th, 2007 which removed the cancerous tumor, the tail and part of the body of the pancreas along with the spleen.  Thankfully the lymph nodes are testing negative but I find out on July 18th, when the drain tube comes out of my side (HOPEFULLY), if I will have to do chemo but Nexium is really working very well for me.  Hope this helps!
