How likely is it that the prostate is the site of metastastes, rather than the original site? My husband had mucinous adenocarcinoma of the terminal ileum which was taken care of. Now his prostate is enlarged, at the top of normal for his age (3.2 psa level at age 50). I am not sure we knew whether his original site was the terminal ileum or not. Should I be worried?
It is unlikely.PSA of 3.2 is normal value for 50 years old man and prostate cancer usually would have higher PSA level.Prostate gland can get transiently larger with infections .Also it enlarges with age.Was the prostate enlargement detected by GP or urologist? Or was it on TRUS (trans-rectal ultrasound)?
Cancer of ileum is a rare type of cancer and the higher the stage the higher is the risk of recurrence.Exclusive metastases to prostate from this type od cancer is unlikely and only remotely possible.
