My farther is 80 years old. He has pancreatic cancer and already transferred to lever. He has diabetic and heart problem. I have heard about Tarceva. But I am not sure in his condition if he can take Tarceva.

Hello...My name is Nicole. My father who was 64 was diagnosed on February 16,2007 with pancreatic cancer. They also found a very small spot on his liver which was also cancer in which the surgery was voided. He started Genzyme chemo asap....in april the doc wanted to try tarceva...well my father started the tarceva and just went downhill from there...his face broke out in this horrible looking rash, he didnt want to eat, and he had diahrea so bad that he was forced to wear depends....he was in the cancer center having iv fluids pumped into him everyday because he was so dehydrated...my father was on tarceva for 1 month and he had to stop...he had no quality of life left after taking it....my father passed away june 21, 2007...too young to die! im very sorry to hear of your fathers diagnosis...its not an easy thing to deal with at all....im not trying to put down your hope of tarceva because i do hear of other stories of people not getting as sick as my father was from it....i wish your you and your father the best

sincerely,

nicole

Mom, 79, was diagnosed March 22 with met to liver. Has been on Gemzar/Tarceva since with good success.  Had the horrible rash, was given antibiotic.  We thought it was great news when we saw the rash .

Her lungs cleared up and no growth in the liver met. Has been Grossly stable.

SHe gets tired after chemo for a couple days, food taste lousy but hasn't lost weight.  She is still living her life and adjusting.

We are grateful that its working and take the minimal side effects as they come.

Fight the fight and stay positive.

Amy, your mom sounds amazing.  My mom is 75, diagnosed March 06, had whipple, mets to liver in April 07.  She's fighting with all her might.  Bless them both, and good luck to you.
