Low Platelet Count

Subject: Low Platelet Count
Date: 12/20/2004
I have just completed chemotherapy (Adriamyacin-Cytoxan and Taxol) and radiation for breast cancer. All through the chemo my platelet count was around 200. During the radiation the count dropped to the mid 50's and now that radiation is over, my count has gone as low as 38, back up to 52 and now 42. I am bruising quite easily now. The doctors seem completely puzzled as to why this persists one month after treatment was completed. I am taking no medication now other than a liquid multi-vitamin and my oncologist wants me to stop that until my next blood test to see if there is some effect. My red and white counts are normal and everything else looks good, too. My energy is usually quite good. I exercise three days a week, appetite is good.
Has anyone experienced something similar or found a nutritional or other alternative approach that has been successful in raising platelet count?
Happy holidays, Michele C.
