Treatments

I'm looking for any information on treatments or experiences with myxofibro sarcoma.

In Jan 2007, my 68 year old father had surgery to remove a mass the size of a grapefruit on the back of his thigh.  It was later diagnosed as a myxofibro sarcoma although there were two tumors on top of each other - one an aggressive form of cancer and one a non-aggressive cancer.  The mass was removed in one piece.  He then had a series of radiation treatment in this area.

Last week he went in for a follow-up CT scan and they found at least 15 (and likely more) spots on his lungs that range from tiny to 19 mm.  These spots did not appear on his CT scan in January.  Since the spots are of varying size, varying location and in both lungs, his doctors are recommending a biopsy to remove ~3 of the spots to make a positive diagnosis that this is a recurrence of his previous sarcoma.  If it is positive, his doctors are recommending he then have chemotherapy.

From the limited information available, it does not appear that chemotherapy has had very beneficial results.  Has anyone gone through this situation or have any resources, treatment options, etc. we can look into?

Thank  you.

In June 2005 I had a large tumor removed from my back. More surgery 2 months later. During prep for another surgery 3 months later the cancer was found in my lungs with more than 20 nodules of various sizes. Then 48 radiation treatments. Chemo began adriomycin which did not work. In jan 2006 I began ifosfamide chemo 5 days per week all day with treatments every 3 weeks. In 2006 a total of 8 cycles of treatment were taken. The cancer recurred in Feb 2007 and I have had 7 cycles of a week each with one more scheduled for Aug.

The patient will have to adapt to the situation and the side effects are usually not easy. I am a 74 year old male. Follow the advice of doctors and nurses. Specific chemos applied to  patients would lead to suggestions.

Although I don't have similar condition as you described and I only received radiation after resection, I am interested in following up with you case in preparation of potential spreading in the lung. Would appreciate any posting regarding the development.

My best wishes to a successful treatment.
